I got it and have been using it for 'bout a week and a half.

I’m quite pleased with it and use it everyday for anytime between 5 minutes to an hour. I feel a lot better about my vocabulary now than I ever did before. I’m good at everything else, but vocab had been my Achilles heels.

It starts simply by introducing eight or so words and directly goes into quiz mode. Quiz’s are not timed. Quizes take place in two formats: in the first one it displays a word and you have to select the correct definition from the eight definitions listed below. In the second format, it gives a definition on top and you have to choose the correct word from the eight listed below.

Everytime you select the correct answer, it moves on to the next question. If you choose the wrong answer, it let’s you review the word and its definition. There’s no score-card, time-keeping etc. Things just keep flowing. Once you get used to it… it’s quite pleasing. Unlike other software, there’s no clicking around on menus and dialog boxes. So, even if I use it for a minute, I actually get a useful workout.

It seems to be aware of my past responses. As the words I have problems with appear more frequently. The words that I always respond to correctly appear far less often.

At all times, it shows a count of the words I’ve learnt on the upper right hand corner which tells me how much progress I’m making.

Once in a while it gives me tests (which are in the same format as quizes), and tests on the words that I’ve supposedly already mastered. It seems quite smart about what words to test on. The more I use it, the more I appreciate that it somehow seems to know exactly what I need practice on. As soon as things get somewhat comfortable, it introduces some new words and if I’m not able to remember too many words, it holds off on that.

What I like most about it is that I never have to worry about what to work on next… it makes those choices for me and they work very well. It’s nice to have it on my iPod-touch, so that I can use during times that would otherwise be wasted (like waiting in line in cafeteria, sitting in car, on sidelines during games etc). Makes really good time-management.

Bottom-line: I’d recommend it to anybody who’s in high school and would like to build vocabulary. I had found vocabulary building far more intimidating before I used this.
