Has anybody tried this?

My brother is using this iPhone app for vocabulary building and he swears by it. I need a second opinion. It has rave reviews n all that but I want to know the opinion of the people here who have used it. It's at suvobi.com

If you've used it, let me know if you'd recommend it and why.

I’ve been using it and I can recommend it. It has a very clean and uncluttered look. It always moves at a pace I like. It’s very efficient… not a single second is wasted in navigating around. In the first couple of days of using it, I learned ~200 words. It automatically checks for retention knowing what words I had difficulty learning.

It’s strength is also its weakness. It took me ~30 minutes to get used to it. It’s just very different from a lot of vocab apps, and IMO far more effective. it’s pretty cheap so definitely worth a try.

All in all, it’s quite convenient to use my iPhone for vocab. I can use it anytime I like, waiting in line, etc… so I can utilize otherwise wasted time and that helps me a lot.

My strategy is to combine Suvobi with reading if you’re a freshmen, sophomore, junior or a senior with >3 months to for SAT. If you’re have less time then that to go for SAT, just use Suvobi by itself.

I’m only scratching the surface here. For more details, check out: SuVoBi.com

Thanks AtlanticXenu for the info. I finally decided to getit. it was going for 99 cents (it’s on a promotion or something). I’ll use it a day or two and post my own review. try this link to get it at a promotional price: [iTunes Store](http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/act-sat-vocabulary-builder-by-suvobi/id335313568?mt=8)

I got it and have been using it for 'bout a week and a half.

I’m quite pleased with it and use it everyday for anytime between 5 minutes to an hour. I feel a lot better about my vocabulary now than I ever did before. I’m good at everything else, but vocab had been my Achilles heels.

It starts simply by introducing eight or so words and directly goes into quiz mode. Quiz’s are not timed. Quizes take place in two formats: in the first one it displays a word and you have to select the correct definition from the eight definitions listed below. In the second format, it gives a definition on top and you have to choose the correct word from the eight listed below.

Everytime you select the correct answer, it moves on to the next question. If you choose the wrong answer, it let’s you review the word and its definition. There’s no score-card, time-keeping etc. Things just keep flowing. Once you get used to it… it’s quite pleasing. Unlike other software, there’s no clicking around on menus and dialog boxes. So, even if I use it for a minute, I actually get a useful workout.

It seems to be aware of my past responses. As the words I have problems with appear more frequently. The words that I always respond to correctly appear far less often.

At all times, it shows a count of the words I’ve learnt on the upper right hand corner which tells me how much progress I’m making.

Once in a while it gives me tests (which are in the same format as quizes), and tests on the words that I’ve supposedly already mastered. It seems quite smart about what words to test on. The more I use it, the more I appreciate that it somehow seems to know exactly what I need practice on. As soon as things get somewhat comfortable, it introduces some new words and if I’m not able to remember too many words, it holds off on that.

What I like most about it is that I never have to worry about what to work on next… it makes those choices for me and they work very well. It’s nice to have it on my iPod-touch, so that I can use during times that would otherwise be wasted (like waiting in line in cafeteria, sitting in car, on sidelines during games etc). Makes really good time-management.

Bottom-line: I’d recommend it to anybody who’s in high school and would like to build vocabulary. I had found vocabulary building far more intimidating before I used this.

Looks interesting. I’m done with the SAT, but I might try this just to improve my vocabulary in general.

Hi,
I work for Suvobi, the company that makes it. I came across this thread while googling.

Out of respect for this forum, I’ll refrain from hawking anything but answer the support questions, if any.

Those of you who’re using it are advised to update to the latest version, 1.1. It has some important enhancements. If you got this software within the last one week, you don’t need any update.

If you have any questions on it, you can post it here and send email to sat@suvobi.com. I’ll monitor this thread/forum at least once a day.

It’s definitely nice to have a commended developer on the forums. How about a nice price cut for us about to take the SAT? :)

Thank you eastbound.

At this point, there’s already a price cut. It has a holiday discount of $40%. So, the price is reduced from pre-holiday price of 4.99 to 2.99 :)

I’ll find out if we can give anymore discount to the members of this forum.

Ya great!

Let’s advertise products on CC.

@Suvobi, if you really want that a lot of people buy your applications, then you should better place a banner on this website. I am sure it will bump up your sales.
