Has anyone been accepted to a school without doing an interview?

Just curious to see if doing an interview is vital for getting in.

I think that it’s really uncommon to apply without interviewing… I don’t think that it will damage your chances, but you will need to find a way to give the AOs what the interview provides. A look at yourself and your personality, not your accomplishments. How well are do you converse with adults? Sense of humor? Easy to talk to?

I wasn’t asking this question with myself in mind, when i apply i will do the interview,I’m just curious to see if you can get admitted without an interview.

I’m sure * someone * has gotten into a boarding school without an interview-- albeit rarely…

I have!

I do, however, believe that it does severely damage chances, especially at the top tier boarding schools.

Isn’t it a requirement at most schools? They will work with you to make it happen, either with a representative off campus or via Skype/facetime.

Agreed. But this exception would probably be only for a huge, mega-hooked applicant. Like at the JFK Jr hooked-level. For typical applicants, with Skype as an option, acceptance to a BS that requires an interview without having said interview is just not gonna happen.

I actually disagree @skieurope I would never consider myself “Mega-hooked” as I am a caucasian, non-legacy, non-recruited athlete girl and was waitlisted at Andover. However, this might just apply to Groton as they do not offer off campus Skype interviews (although I still have heard of them giving them upon occasion). In addition, the admission’s people I talked to explained that there have been other candidates in the past who were accepted without an interview due to their no Skype interview policy. But, again, this probably only apply to Groton and any other schools that don’t offer Skype interviews.

At a school where interviews are required, you probably won’t get in without an interview. But I know at Middlesex, where interviews are not required, students do get in without interviews

Hence, why I specified schools where Skype is an option.

I know someone who was accepted at Groton without doing an interview. There are definitely people at great schools who have gotten in without interviews, but it’s a rarity. Plus, not doing an interview has to damage your chances compared to those who do them.
