I finally received my financial aid awards…
I can safely say that I’ll be attending CSULB this coming fall XD!

On a side note, I have been reading that as transfer students we need to fulfill some upper division general education requirements…what do you guys know about this?

hey guys I am Prasan from India and I have been admitted to CSULB Masters program for fall 2012. How is the general impression of the college among you guys ?

Was anybody else offered work study?
I was offered some… Do you guys have any idea on how we go about to find a job?
Also, has anybody been to the SOAR orientation yet? (If so, can you describe it? Thanks.)

I just attended SOAR yesterday 6/19 which is the first SOAR workshop! So you check in at Brotman Hall. There’s gonna be different lines depending on your last name (A-K, L-S, etc). While you’re waiting, the SOAR people give you a goodie bag with free stuff! Wooo! And your freshman profile saying your test scores, etc. After you check in, you head to LH151 which is a pretty long walk from BH, but good exercise In LH151 you listen to an Intro by the SOAR president dude and other people come up to say congrats on your acceptance, have fun your freshman year, etc etc. Then you are broken down to your different colleges. So if you’re a Criminal Justice major you are joined with other Health and Human Services majors. You take a tour of the different buildings on campus by the SOAR advisors. Then you head into a another lecture hall and listen to another presentation on the First Year Experience site. You then head for lunch at the USU. Our lunch choices were either a Chicken bowl or a Veggie bowl from El Pollo Loco. After lunch you head back to the lecture hall and you start to pick your classes! They give you this worksheet thing that recommends to you what classes to take depending on your major. You do that then head into the Horn Center to log into the computer and enroll in your selected class! That’s it! After, I went to the bookstore to get my ID and picture taken. I was going to do it during the lunch break but I was short on time. Had to be back to the hall by a certain time or else they said we’d had to do SOAR all over again! No thanks! Don’t forget to bring your ID like your license to get your school ID. Well that’s pretty much it. It ended like at 3 which is great. Didn’t want to stay until 5! If you have any questions, just ask! :)

I always have attended SOAR but went yesterday on the 20th and had a great time. All the people are very nice and helpful so don’t be afraid to ask any questions you have. Everything was well organized and planned out. Picking classes was a little overwhelming at first trying to understand the process of what we had to do but there is advisors there to help you. Most of classes still had plenty of openings too. I also made friends with a few people and were planning on meeting up before classes start.

Thank you guys for your responses…
I’m really looking forward to orientation–although I’m scheduled to have it until very late in July. I’m taking my sweet time to come up with a good schedule… I hope the classes don’t fill up soon!
I’m actually a transfer…so yeah, hopefully it’ll be good.

are any transfer students attending orientation July 27th, driving to LB from up north, central valley (fresno area) that would potentially like to carpool??? we could save on gas???

This is my first time I ever applied for fafsa. Anyway, I accepted my awards and it still gives you the option to accept them after I’ve done so. Did I get my awards or not?!?!?

@Basco mine are the same way and I’m pretty sure I received them so don’t worry about it.

Does anyone know if you have to pay the full tuition fee for this fall when receiving financial aid? I called them and this lady said I only had to pay the difference of what financial aid I’m getting by the due date. I don’t want to be dropped from classes for not paying the rest of tuition fee on time. :/

@BascoThePooch- After you’ve accepted your award, you should not be able to accept them again. Check to see if you really did accept them and saved all changes. You won’t get your FA until the end of August. It says the disbursement date on mycsulb which I believe is August 20.

@ktkodi- How much is your FA? If it is less than you dues which can be found on mycsulb, then you have to pay the difference before the due date. Just subtract your FA from your total dues. If your FA exceeds your total dues, do NOTHING. When your FA is disbursed, it will automatically go and pay off your dues if you have an electronic banking account.
