Hi Guys I was just wondering, do pastors children or religious affiliated children get a pass into colleges because of who their parents are?
Woman in my freshman dorm was the child of missionaries… I wouldn’t call it getting a pass- she was every bit as qualified as any other student… but she sure had an interesting childhood to talk about!!!
Are you looking at colleges in your own denomination?
looking to get into NYU or Cornell
Then, no.
great thank you
Colleges are much more interested in YOU and YOUR accomplishments than those of your parents. Exceptions to this are few and far between – ex. parent is famous and would bring positive notoriety to the school, an alumni who donates a ton to the college etc.
You background could possibly be used as the basis for an interesting essay (just be sure the focus of the essay is on you and not your father) but that’s about it.
Good luck.
Okay Great. Thank you so much
only at college with an explicit religious link to your parents’ denomination and only as a nudge, not a hook.
Since NYU and Cornell are non-denominational, not even a nudge.
DO apply to colleges from your denomination and start showing interest now.
okay great thank you
Or maybe apply elsewhere to widen your horizons…. And get in on your own merits.
