Hey,
im an international i think im having cold feet about going to college in the US. I did not get into the college's that i wanted to and this was my safety (an LAC ) and for some reason i dont feel confident sometimes that i wanna go. I got into one of the best local colleges here and i feel that i might want to go there. But then there is the possibilty of transferring to a better place in the US if i go to that us college, plus ill be missinng out on the international experience if i stay here. So anyone else ever had something like this happened to him/her?
I really felt that if i had gotten into a somewhat good college (a good b-school) i wouldnt have had this problem.

I know a friend who is exactly in the same position. if you name the uni you got into maybe we could help better

hey whartonite lol

It was just kind of a general question. However i dunno what i was thinking back then, for some reason im all pumped up to go now. The lac im goin to is actually quite good and respected , its no upenn but i can make it whateva i want of it lol. Plus im dam sure im gonna have a hell of a time there so thats really makes me wanna go !

lol i just answered my own question. But thank you for replying . im goin to f&m and the local college, well u guessed it, is LUMS , where is ur pal goin?

It's your call. I just wanted to remark that it is unlikely that you will be able to transfer to a university that is significantly better than F&M, and close to impossible if you need financial aid.

i dont need FA if thats a problem...and really is F&M that bad?? i mean its pretty well respected and all, no ivy league or williams but still alot of their grads get into the top grad schools and stuff? I mean even if i keep a good GPA and good EC's its gonna be unlikely? im not talking about stanford , yale or **** , im talking about places like nyu stern (where i was waitlisted for 2 months) northwestern , etc

No, F&M is not bad, which is why you will be unlike to transfer to a better place. Transfer admission is competitive, even more so if you want to transfer into a well-regarded business school. You might be able to transfer but don't count on it. Only go to F&M if you are happy to stay there for all 4 years in case transferring doesn't work out.

som1: F&M has a great reputation for pre-professional education...many, many alumni have attended top business and law schools, and the science programs are top notch.....Academics wise, you will be just fine...

Otherwise, F&M is a beautiful small school; not overwhelming, with nice kids....give it a chance.....

also, Not sure why above poster is so negative about your transferring prospects if necessary.......

yea F&M is kool, the only thing which bothers me is that they dont have a computer science program or a MIS or quantative analysis one ( i want to be a quant) .

But ah well , 5 ppl from my school last year went to penn, and freshman of the year of the YALE class of 2010 was also from my school , but all those places fu**ed me over lol :P :P :P

F&M does not have a computer science major but they do have a minor, and F&M's math department offers a number of courses in statistics and mathematical modeling. And you want to be a business major anyway, don't you?

Btw, F&M doesn't even offer enough accounting courses to fulfill the minimum requirements for a transfer applicant to Stern. Stern wants you to have taken at least two courses in accounting but F&M only offers one, and you cannot even take that one before the spring semester of your sophomore year.

thx for replying rodney. I have really no problem with F&M, like i said i dunno what i was thinking before , looking forward to a great great time in the US and at F&M :)

Anyway lets keep the topic fresh, has anyone had any second doubts while going to their respective college?

B@rium: I was talking about a soph transfer. Not trying to be smug but im more than qualified to attend stern ( save my SAT scores) if my high school record is what matters during a soph transfer and i doubt theyd ask for accounting classes for a soph transfer if all u get to study in ur freshman year are liberal arts core classes at NYU even if ur in stern

And well nah, i actually wanna do maths, i only thought of b-school's coz that might help me satisfy my curosity about business etc even if i do transfer into a b-school ill go for a dual major in quantative anaylsis and maths . Thanks for ur input !

I don't doubt that you are smart enough to attend Stern. But Stern says very explicitly that they will only give "serious consideration" to applicants who have taken calculus, microeconomics and 6 semester hours of accounting (= 2 courses) before their transfer. (F&M doesn't let you take a single accounting course as a freshman!) And yes, this does apply to sophomore transfers as well. You will be at a severe disadvantage if you apply without the academic background that Stern is expecting. Don't count on being admitted to a program whose pre-requisites you have not fulfilled.

alrite, i never said stern was the only place i would apply , that is , IF I APPLIED.
Anyway there are bound to be ways around that accounting class ****, but right now i dont care lol.

Anyway lets stay on topic now , HAVE you or anyone else you knew had cold feet going to ur respective college?

I just wanted to show you that transferring might not be as easy as you imagine it to be. But yeah, let's get back to the topic :)

yea i realize transferring is tricky stuff just like freshman admissions, but meh lol i dont wanna think about that now , ill just enjoy the great colllege i got lol

Anyway , ANYONE wanna comment on the topic??? :P

Dude, be happy with what you already got. When I first applied to US colleges, I often thought to myself that if I could get into any of the colleges I applied to with a decent financial aid, I'd be really happy. And now I am happy!

omg...thank you but the last 5 posts of this convo are all about this, that im happy lol.

By getting cold feet i dont really mean not being satisfied with the college u got , I also mean stuff like leaving ur country family and friends and shet.
