Has anyone had a school request your acceptance before the official April 15 deadline

I posted this under another thread and thought I should start a new thread -

I have been following this forum for several months now. I know someone who has several acceptances to molecular medicine PhD programs and is planning on making a decision as soon as she has carefully compared all aspects of the different programs so she chooses the program that will be the best fit for her. When one of the schools offered her admission by phone a couple of weeks ago, they wanted a decision on the spot. She obviously wasn't prepared at that point so was told she would have until a certain date, which was less than a week later. Is this practice acceptable? Should she feel obligated to make the decision over a month earlier than the official date otherwise having to decline the offer at that school?

I cannot speak to molecular medicine, but most programs in the humanities ask for commitments well prior to April 15th, so that if students decline, the program can then admit (and wait for a commitment from) the next-ranked applicant.

I am in a similar situation. Two schools told me they offered me admission, but that they wanted a decision within the week since they knew that I had an offer from an institution whose program they felt would be more attractive to me. I turned one down and will most likely turn down the other. I was confused as to why they did this, also.

There’s a somewhat similar thread at grad cafe:
[March 15 vs. April 15 • forum.thegradcafe.com](http://forum.thegradcafe.com/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=15832)

Here’s the schools that are part of the council:
[Council of Graduate Schools > Membership > Current Members ( DNN 3.2.2 )](http://www.cgsnet.org/Default.aspx?tabid=102&ctl=InstSearchResult&mid=437&TYPE=REGION&VALUE=MIDWEST)

And this is the April 15 resolution document:
