Has anyone heard back from VCU 2018?

@PhilipM Congratulations! Worth the wait! Did your acceptance come in a large or small envelope? We are still waiting to hear.

@sbgal2011 Large envelope.

Funny thing, 2 of the 3 acceptances my daughter has received, South Carolina and VCU, have come in the mail; both were misdelivered to the wrong house and then brought to us by neighbors.

That’s so strange. Has your daughter made a decision on where she wants to go? My older son, who is in college, loved South Carolina but he wasn’t accepted there. That’s a great school! I don’t know anything about their Art Dept though, my older son was interested in business. @PhilipM

@sbgal2011 She doesn’t have a clear favorite but Virginia Tech, from which she will hear on Marcch 5th, is probably her 1st choice at this point. South Carolina is in the mix. They offered her in state tuition (we are Virginia people) and their Media Arts program seems to offer a lot of what she wants by way of opportunity to foxus on digital art, animation and game design; Virginia Tech’s Creative Technologies program also has that.

When we toured VCU, she liked its urban location, but it hasnt been among her top choices because I think she wasn’t expecting to get in. It is the most artsy art school she applied to and the firts one she submitted a portfolio to; when she applied she just wasn’t that confident in her portfolio so this accepatnce was apleasant surprise and may change her thinking about favorites.

Beyond Tech, she is waiting to hear from Wellesley, Carnegie Mellon, UVA, and Northeastern. None of those are as high on the list for her as Tech is, and, should she get accepted to any, all accept UVA, where we would get in state tuition, would have to offer significant money for them to be realistically affordable. She really like Carnegie Mellon and Wellesley but both are reach schools and she isn’t sold on single gender Wellesley.

DS got his acceptance letter from VCU Arts today! I was a bit surprised but happy. We are also Virginia residents so the price is hard to beat. He also loved SCAD, but I can’t imagine paying twice the money for a school that is no better than VCU Arts. Anyway, so relieved that we finally got a response!

@sbgal2011 Congrats. Interesting that applicants with digital/graphic design interest are hearing now. Perhaps the early group was more focused on Studio Art with the more tech field getting evaluated later? My daughter has a good friend who applied studio that heard pretty quickly. Whatever the case, good news
