Has anyone managed a part time job during the school year?

I’m planning to find a part time job during the school year and I am wondering 2 things :

Where would a city kid be able to find a part time job?
I tried a few fast food restaurants,but I couldn’t find any jobs

For those that have done it - is it manageable with schoolwork?

Ayy I’m working 3.5 hours tomorrow

I work in recreation, and it’s basically all birthday parties and groups. Very flexible, very easy.

Cool, how did you find the job, and are you planning on doing it during the school year? @awesomepolyglot

super easy actually, personally id recommend retail not restaurants, i actually got a job at a nearby hospitals in admissions, i am every other weekend and per diem, make about $17/h so not bad for a part time job.

Cool, did you just go up to them and ask for applications? @raulhumber2

I frequent the place where I work, so when they put up “NOW HIRING” signs, I was just like “cool” and 2 months later I had a job.

And because it’s usually about 3 hours a week on weekends, yes, it is very doable during the school year.

I would also not recommend restaurant work. All your Friday and Saturday nights will be gone, and it’s not pleasant work, in my opinion.

It depends how many hours you want to work. For me, working at the restaurant as a host for 20 hours a week (at least four days a week and I didn’t have Sat or Sun off) was not do-able. But everyone’s different.

As for how to get the job, I’d go around your city looking for Now Hiring signs and apply in-person. If that doesn’t work, search online and use snagajob. You’ll get a job eventually. I ended up having two offers, one from Hardee’s and the other from a local upper scale restaurant, which I accepted.

For retails yes, hospitals look nearby, they are always hiring, hospitals for the most part have high turnovers due to staff getting burnt out because hospitals are always open. Id look at their websites most clerical or desk jobs dont require a degree just great people skills and tech savy, which is easy for us, the tech part is meant for the older folks who don’t know how to use a computer.
