Okay guys, today is the day! Ughhh! So nervous!! I have a few more hours until this mail man comes haha

Oof, rejected… Good luck to the rest of you!!

I got my letter today.
Rejected. :'(

Damn, are all the decisions released ? no one gets notified by email ?

@fireworks… I definitely cried all day too boooooo schools(AKA occidental) that claim to look at the individual throughout the application process… when all they really care about is the SAT score… Hah but actually… I worked my tail off the past two years- working, paying my way through school and completeing the honors program with one of the highest gpa’s in my school. Plus I flew all the way down there for an interview and all they can send me in return is a measly paragraph that says… Rejected. Without reason. Awesome.

I mean, as excited as I was to go there… if that’s all they can give in return to a prospective student that they knew had given as much effort into acomplishing well above the standards they called for- occidental it’s not the school for me… I mean I know I’m bitter, but honestly, when the focus of a schools admissions falls upon on how well a student can take a test or how the school can better their athletic programs… I don’t feel like it would be the academically challenging and diverse school I was looking for… So… Good luck to the rest of you, I have a few friends that attend and they love it so I’m sure you will enjoy it too. But if you’re looking for financial aid… I hope the althetic programs don’t hijack it by the time you are officially enrolled.

Hah

@ milanista: some of us got emails, but I think the vast majority didn’t.

@ simply: what makes you say they only care about your test scores?

Thanks, itspop.

I didn’t get an email and I left my house so I can’t check the mail. It’s weird how a lot of people got rejected, I’m not putting any hopes on it. Just sent the admission office an email about what my decision is so that I would vent here later haha

@simply123, They don’t care about test scores that much, trust me! I have 2340 SAT + 4.0 GPA and got waitlisted. In my case, all they cared about was my substantial financial need (I am an international student, from underrepresented country btw) :(

haha ignore it… Its too late for me to delete the post… I was only upset they didn’t offer any reason at all to why they rejected me, the letter was a three sentence paragraph and the last sentence came across as pompous and rude. So, I made some reasons up to comfort myself haha… anyway, my financial need is exceptionally high as well, besides that the only thing I can find wrong with my application in regards to everything I had submitted were my awful SAT scores. My interviewer was very excited for me and told me I was “perfect for this school” after we had finished talking, so I’m not sure where the rubber hit the road. I feel like if it had anything to do with a lack of resources, they would have mentioned it within the letter, but they gave me nothing. Nobody likes rejection. Instead of making myself feel awful about it by telling myself I’m not good enough, or blaming myself even though I worked as hard as I could… I put the blame on them? If that makes sense. In other words, their rejection of me is their problem, not mine. And I mean that goes for anyone who gives it all they have only to be rejected. I couldn’t have physically done any more than I had to impress them, so… why should I feel terrible about it? What I gather from my interview, after meeting me and getting to know me and the work I’ve done the past two years, they wanted me there, they said so. I had incredible professor recommendations/ honors program/ outstanding grades /extra curricular activities/ and volunteer work… The only thing I can think of that would have swayed them were the SAT scores… so… it’s too bad it didn’t work out… but It seems so foolish to think their opinion of what I could accomplish at their school is based on a test taken years ago… I don’t know. With out their specific reason, I made up my own with the least reasonable doubt so to whoever it was that asked… that’s why haha

I would venture to guess that financial need did have a lot to do with their decisions. They aren’t need blind are they? I just got the acceptance letter in the mail today, but it’s bittersweet because they didn’t give me any scholarships or grants so I don’t think I’ll be able to attend. My stats are pretty lackluster as well, 3.63 at a university and 1950 SATs.

@simply: financial need is definitely a huge factor to why they might have turned down your app. looking at the current economy downturn and all those problems regarding bouncing back, schools need as much money as possible. surely there are 50 good students with 0 EFC, but they just can’t admit them. schools needs money to function, it might also need to lower its academic standards if someone has an EFC of 50k but SATs of 1600 for example. Not having enough money does not make you a bad student, instead gives you a great incentive to work harder in your current school and be a successful man later in future who money would be his last concern.

rejected as expected !! what do we do now? vent? haha
