Could those who have received at least the UF scholarship ($500/yr.) notification please post how long it took from the day UF was notified by NMSC to the time the scholarship appeared on their ONE.UF financial aid portal? I am assuming it appeared before the full Benacquisto showed up. Thanks.
My OOS son was Benacquisto last fall. It took weeks for the OOS waiver. As a student he still shows as OOS the following semester. The $ also takes weeks to appear. Several waivers appear to be the norm until the $ drops. It is a great scholarship!
PS If you live on campus then it is fairly easy to waiver room and board and all tuition and fees until the state drops the money each semester. Just pocket money was needed.
@FSUdad93 How much is the tuition waiver for OOS students? Thank you.
Jessica’s Roth is the UF benequisto coordinator. I spoke with her. The money is not given until the add/drop date is passed for the fall semester. The student is allowed to register and get books on credit. Then when the money is given, UF takes out what is theirs and the rest of the money is deposited into students account. We paid the housing deposit out of pocket. It is not the most transparent of processes. I believe the out of state process is still being worked out. My son’s financial aid packet still lists as out of state tuition. Jessica assured me this would change at some point. She also said she was going to send out a group email to benequisto scholars filling in all the gaps. We haven’t received that email yet.
Hope this helps.
My son received his complete notification at the end of March. It contains an itemized list of all the awards which make up the full cost of attendance. At Preview last week they said it won’t hit the account until after drop add. He was still able to register and sign up for a meal plan. The Benacquisto itself is only $13,750 per year. The remainder is comprised of other smaller awards with the Florida Academic Scholars award being the next largest amount at $6,360.
For Out of State, the tuition waiver is in the neighborhood of $25000 a year. For 2019 $46000 as opposed to $21,000 or so.
@dm5656 did you ever get a group email from Jessica Roth at UF? My son has not and is starting to wonder when the $ will show up. I told him that @FSUdad93 posted that it took a looonnnggg time last year. He is still antsy. That’s a big balance to look at so I can understand he is anxious for it to go away! I suggested he email Ms Roth but I figured I could ask here too. Thanks!
Mamareeb, mine received his in his account. He then had to wait all week for the OOS tuition to be waived. I believe it will clear in his bank by 091619. Others may still be waiting. The state sends the $ in batches and with each batch, some students receive their award. Other’s wait! It is not unusual to get several waivers for tuition, room and board etc. while you wait.
dm5656 The OOS will stay on your students account the entire duration of attendance. They keep it OOS and then every semester at some point they waive. I know its a pain but should a student lose Benacquisto, they would be obligated to pay OOS tuition going forward. The OOS tuition drains the students account every post drop and add period. Then you wait for the waiver reimbursement. In the meantime the student is broke.
DS23 has not received it yet. He went to Financial Aid, they emailed back and told him he needed to upload a copy of his Social Security card since we did not submit FAFSA. Wondering why nobody told any of us, I emailed Jessica Roth but she is out recruiting until Sept. 30. Now my son will have to wait until UF sends the info to the state, and then the state will have to disburse the funds. In the meantime, he will have to pay tuition and housing out of pocket. Very strange. Has anybody run into this situation?
