I was looking through the course review and it's gotten a variety of reviews (none for difficulty in recent years) along with a note that one professor frequently complained about Penn's Arabic program. I'm wondering if anyone has taken any of these classes and could explain?

No none has ever taken that class.

I appreciate your insightful response. Let me rephrase it to avoid more smartassery.

Has anyone on this forum board who is currently or formerly enrolled in the University of Pennsylvania taken Arabic language classes while attending the university?

I was actually wondering the same thing, and whether learning arabic was actually worthwhile :s

I scheduled Arabic for the fall semester…but ive never taken it. Kinda in the same boat.

Well at least I’m not the only one.

i’ve actually heard the opposite about Penn’s Arabic program. in fact, it’s actually one of the first departments in the country for arabic, and all of my friends who have taken arabic here seem to really like the classes/department. i wouldn’t worry too much about the course review comments–they tend to be very polarized most of the time.

I have taken two semesters of Arabic, the program is excellent and you will learn a great deal if you are willing to put effort outside the class. Also Mbarek is the best professor IMO

Thank you for your input and that makes me feel better.

My friend took a lot of Arabic courses this year, and she LOVED them. She studied at the American University in Cairo over the summer during high school, so she had already had exposure to Arabic, so I’m not sure if she took an intro course, but regardless, she was very pleased.
