Has anyone taken Theater 10..Intro to acting? How was the audition?

I've never had any formal acting classes, nor have I done anything related to acting. The most I've done is a monologue from my comp and record it on my computer while I'm doing it.

I'm worried about signing up for it and having all these professional students sign up for the audition. : / and I'd be the only one that would suck.

When you audition, are the judges only watching or everyone else who auditioned?

I am a new student but I think I can answer a few of these questions. Remember that you are auditioning for a class to TEACH you to act, they aren’t expecting 1000% raw talent otherwise you really wouldn’t need the class. Auditions are almost always just the person auditioning, and the panel (Director, asst director, producer etc.). The other people auditioning will probably be waiting in another room, though I’ve heard of situations where they can watch as well.

Have you auditioned before? If so, where else? Man. I wish I knew that before…although I probably wouldn’t have done it still lol. I want to do it but I’m nervous at the same time. I thought everyone would be watching.

I’ve done high school theater, as well as auditions for scholarships, and all of them have been just the panel. I.E. For drama club it was my two drama teachers, whom I know very well. And for a scholarship it was 10 old women I have never met who were part of the Saturday Club. But, I’ve performed enough that I don’t really notice the audience anymore, so perhaps thats why I’m not really scared of auditions.

Oh. Hmm…how do you not get scared anymore? lol I took a class where would present every week, and usually, I would try to find some way out of presenting but obviously you can’t do that EVERY week. So I had to do it. And that helped a lot, but I was just nervous about trying to act at Berkeley because there are tons of people, but some classes are small. Film actors tend to only act in front of like maybe 10 people. i’ve heard that they are shy and now look at them.

heh, all your posting about Theatre 10 has made me curious, now I kind of want to take the class, partly because I’m a relatively shy person and am interested in struggling in something I’ve never tried before. Too bad it looks extremely time-consuming for a 3 unit class and has sucky section times that aren’t convenient for me. Still wondering what class is like – is it all practice? Any lecture?

And professional film actors act in front of WAY more than 10 people. There’s other actors on set and of course the production crew.

Remember: “Acting is the shy person’s revenge on the world.” ;)

hah I’ve never heard that before! The last quote. Yeah, it’s definitely a good thing to do to become more comfortable with public speaking, I think. Alexis Bledel and Blake Lively both said they were shy before, and Alexis’ parents said they put her into theatre when she was young to help her overcome that. What happens after taking intro to acting? Do you continue to take more acting classes and hopefully get a part somewhere if ur good? Eventually broadway or what?

bumpppppppp

Bump???

I will take this class just before I graduate. Hope that the class is full of hot girls.
Theatre 10, I won’t forget.

I took Theater 10 last semester (Spring 2013).

First of all, the audition is pretty much nothing to worry about. As long as you have reasonable availability, you should be able to get into one of the sections even with a “bad audition.” For instance, I had zero prior theater experience, memorized a monologue I found online, recited it with a little conviction, and I got into my first choice section.

Second of all, it’s the best class ever. Or… at least, my section was awesome. I loved it, and I bet so will you!

EDIT: To answer your last question, only the instructors watched my audition. The other students were held in a different room.

how much work did you have to put into it outside of class?

Effectively zero. But I think I was in a suspiciously easy section.

nice, i’ll prolly take that then.
