Has anyone taken these courses

... and know which books are actually needed?

ECON205 with Moore-

Macroeconomics Principles and Policy 2007 update

ENST150 with McKenzie
2006 World Population Data Sheet (the bookstore is out of these)
Taking sides Environmental Issues
Miniature Guide to Critical Thinking (Looks pretty useful, but the teacher might make it completely useless)
Cholera Years
Uncommon Ground
Nature
Writing Research Papers
Out of Eden

FSEM100 with Mosk
Course Reader (Sold Out)

WRIT140
Course Reader

I always had to use my WRIT140 course reader. I guess it depends on which professor you get because there are multiple.

on the topic of classes, six oral presentations for spanish a semester? jeez. the classes must be pretty small then, right?

I took ENST-150 with McKenzie two years ago. The professor himself doesn't refer to the textbooks at all, he just lectures/rants. The TA's do use at least portions of most of the books.

Don't stress about the data sheet. Never used it, and similar data can be found online. Taking Sides was used a few times, and can provide good starting points for research papers. I don't remember a Critical Thinking guide the semester I took the course.

All of Cholera Years was assigned reading, though the take-home lessons from it were limited. Uncommon Ground was critical -- the author's thesis was key to at least the first midterm exam.

Only a few sections of Nature were assigned, but I found the book so convoluted and obnoxiously pretentious that I simply couldn't read it. Again, only a few take-home points from that text were necessary, so you could just get them from someone who has read it.

Research papers and Out of Eden were not on the booklist the semester I took the class.

I have a mint copy of Taking Sides if you would like to borrow it for the semester. Provided the instructor wouldn’t mind a 2005-2006 edition of a WRIT-140 reader, you’re welcome to that as well.
