Has Columbia always accepted more than 50% freshmen through ED?

or is it a more recently adopted method to increase yield?

I guess my ultimate question is will this increasingly popular method of accepting many students through ED affect the feel of the student body and therefore the atmosphere of the school? Or has it always been this way?

It's been this way at Columbia (and other top schools) for the last several years. If anything, it will help the school because more people are likely to really want to be at Columbia.

Wow, 50%? Are you serious?

What's the exact acceptance rate?

FreshElephant, you've got it wrong. Columbia accepts 50% of its freshmen CLASS through ED, the acceptance rate of getting in ED is NOT 50% but more like 15-20%

No, Columbia ED acceptance rate is more than 15-20%.
Last year it was ~25%.

Does anyone know if it's projected to increase or decrease for this coming year?

Also, does anyone know if the Columbia ED applicant pool is usually more, less, or equally as qualified as the Columbia RD applicant pool?

I was thinking it's about the same, since the ED round isn't necessarily filled with more qualified students, just students who have a very good idea of where they want to attend college... I would think the range of students applying ED is close to the range that applies RD as well -- Some big longshots, some with decent chances, and some with good chances.

ed pool is more likely to have less people that just "applied for the hell of it" and more people that are able to get their actions together and get their app submited by the nov deadline.

...Which still doesn't really say if they're more qualified than those of the RD pool.
Just, less procrastinating maybe.
