@kikkydee - this is just my 2cents. Once schools like Bard & Hobart/William Smith have these incidents exposed they have to deal with it so it does not happen again. This type of media coverage in For Profit schools is their worst nightmare. I think this happens all too often in colleges & universities, but gets swept under the carpet b/c the victim does not want to talk about it.
Parents also need to educate their children on what to do in the circumstances. For Profit schools cannot afford to have this in the media, so they sweep it under the carpet rather than deal with it. Anyone who has been sexually assaulted needs to call their parents & the police THE MOMENT IT HAPPENS. A victim most likely will not be thinking clearly & I can only guess want to clean themselves. If they make these calls the evidence & crime scene will be preserved.
I think I would feel safer with my daughter going to a school that has had their name in the paper, then one that has not.
Kat 2013, I do agree… I also think it keeps our children safe when the prospective parents and students ask questions about the school’s sexual assault policy. The more it is talked about and the schools realize it is more to future students more positive changes will happen. Sad to believe we live in a world where parents need to talk to their girls and boys about sexual assault before they go off to college.
