Have Any Other Canadians Applied to LSE In The Past?

Hey,

I'm a Canadian student applying to LSE come this fall using standard OSSD marks. I have a ~97% average from Economics, Data Management, Advanced Functions, Calculus, English, and Resource Management.

How much of chance do I stand? Thanks!

well… assuming you are a high school student…

i applied to lse 3 years ago. i applied with 3.8 unweighted from one of canada’s most prestigious prep schools. i scored 2200+ on sats and 800 on 4 subject tests. i had 11/12 AP courses with scores of 4/5.

well my school’s counsellor didnt like me at all cuz i was a ******bag to her and she didnt really let me know about the Alevel=AP thing on ucas lol…
my ucas well obvsly ended up looking half ass incomplete. i didnt get accepted. although i think i might have if all my info was correctly put in.

my frnd who got accepted to LSE (from same high school he was ranked top5 in school and now attends stanford) had similar stats as i did cept bit higher gpa and stellar rec from the counsellor. mine, im assuming was a piece of **** :(

^yes, your counsellor recommendation can make break or you. Stats are assumed for international students, and the counsellor has a lot of say where you stand in the school (percentile, etc).

I’m a high school student.

I’m finished high school and taking a year aboard, so I don’t have predicted marks, I have a final average of 97.xx%. 43/44 if converted to IB.

I don’t have AP marks. My school is a public school, so they weren’t offered.

I’m using a CEO from a company I worked at as a reference.

aiight heres the thing. to the best of my knowledge (rhodes scholar candidate and well got into several UK schools), ur “A Level” score is what is most important for UK kids to get into their univs which in your case is ib. now if you add in TOK im assuming u have 44/45 which is absolutely stellar. many of my friends from united world colleges went onto oxbridge with high 30s to low 40s. i am almost sure that you will be admitted to lse given your personal statement on UCAS is well written. and ionno how much a ceo’s rec will come into play. i got mine from a congressman, a ceo, a senator and a professor at a leading institution and well lse rejected me due to bad rec from my counsellor (which im assuming is the only…reasonable assumption…since the exact same personal state got me into uchicago econ program…) so make sure your counsellor writes you a DAMN GOOD LoR and i think you are set. best of luck.

I didn’t do IB, I did the OSSD. I used a conversion table to convert my grades from the OSSD to IB, giving me 43 or 44 out of 45.

I’ll write a killer personal statement on UCAS. I thought you only got one reference on UCAS?

Are you from Canada?

I have one question about UCAS! Do I only put my grade 12 marks? They’re all final, not predicted so I wouldn’t need to include grade 11 marks to justify my grade 12’s because they’re final, right?

I can’t seem to get that question answered anywhere.

I just want to know if I need to include anything aside from my grade 12 final marks. All the other schools only need 6 grade 12 courses, not other grades. Oxford is the only school that doesn’t make it clear.

Before you say, “It wouldn’t hurt.” I completely ****ed up grades 9 - 11 because you can in Canada… Only grade 12 matters.

Thanks, man!

check your pm

Yes, you have a high chance! I was looking into it and emailed them (you can too!) and they said they only required 90%+ (essentially for law) and a personal statement or an essay. However, if you want to come back and work in Canada you should definitely see how that would work out, I gathered that Canada was a bit hostile with UK degrees. Well, that was for law btw. Good Luck! Apply to UCL as well, no harm in trying for Oxbridge, is there? You have great marks! Perhaps you’d require the SAT for Oxbridge though!

It doesn’t appear that the OP was planning on studying law at LSE. Going to the UK for law, if you want to practice in Canada or the U.S., is unwise.

I’ll be applying for Management at LSE. Management isn’t offered at UCL. Economics and Management is offered at Oxford, but I don’t want to talk about both Economics and Management, 50/50, and kill my chances of getting into LSE. I’d also have to submit my personal statement earlier and take the TSA. I don’t want to do all that, truth be told.

I emailed LSE and they said that 9 people were admitted last year using the OSSD. Their marks ranged from 63-100%.

alwaysamom, that is exactly why I decided against it.

Topiary, I’d say you have a good chance. You should definitely apply.

Thank you! I plan to apply.

Just for confirmation, they’re looking for 90%+ from 5 University Preparatory credits + 1 University/College Preparatory credit, right? I remember reading that on their site.

What school are you at, MakeADifference?

I’m at a school in Toronto. What are you applying for Topiary? I want to study International Relations and theirs in No. 4 in the world. Then again rankings can be misleading. And both you and I should see how that degree would work out in Canada. PM me and do let me know how your application works out. I wish you the best of luck!

As am I!

I’m torn between Accounting & Finance and Management! I’ll PM you!
