Transferring as a freshman from a very highly regarded state program with a 3.9. Accepted at all. Goal is ultimately phd at at Ivy/Stanford/cal-texas-mich-uva.Any suggestions? Thank you.

Admission to academic Ph.D. programs, at least in the Humanities and Social Sciences, requires strong writing sample and strong recommendations from faculty, so a place where you will get close, personal attention in your major, will matter.
Also, keep in mind, that some Ivies are not necessarily the “best” in various fields. For instance, in Philosophy, NYU and Rutgers are stronger than Harvard and Yale. . . .
