HC Alum--You asked who (besides Middlebury students) associates Middlebury with the likes of Amherst, Williams, and Swarthmore. I posted a link to the first thing that came up in a google search. I'm not saying that Newsweek is any more credible a source than U.S. News (or the National Enquirer for that matter).

And mythmom, I saw your jab at me on another thread. Interesting coming from you, as you're probably the biggest Williams-pusher on this site.

Like I've said before, we all agree that these schools are among the finest in the country. Any student would be lucky to gain acceptance to the likes of Haverford, Williams, or Middlebury.

All excellent schools and all very popular choices in this neck of the woods. I agree with Arcadia. My concern would be if your student could get into any of them as I know a number of kids who were shut out this past year. Look for some similar schools that are not as selective as safeties as these schools are truly reaches for everyone. I am still surprised about one classmate who did not get into his top choices. He unwisely picked a state school out of the blue as a tack on safety instead of looking for a like school such as Hartwick or Gettysburg, and is at a larger, impersonal school, and currently very unhappy. He is looking to transfer ASAP.

pointoforder, see what I mean about CC being a suction of one's time... ?

johnwesley, friend, I think you're having flashbacks and hallucinations again from all the drugs at Wesleyan. No one ever said Wesleyan wasn't mentioned... I said Wellesley. :)

arcadia, Thank you for the clarification. I never asked that though and I'm sorry if that's what you thought. My issue was that you said "In fact, you're more likely to hear Middlebury grouped with Amherst, Williams, and Swarthmore than you are Haverford." As I demonstrated, that's not true.

Also, I encourage you to not rationalize with statements like "Well, I'm just putting it out there... you be the judge... I'm not saying i agree with it." I think that's intellectually irresponsible. You should leave the shell game to greasy politicians.

I consistently say fit is the most important thing and all these schools are excellent. In fact, I am repeatedly attacked for insisting that Williams isn ot better.

So I don't accept your characterization.

And whatever I said on another thread, I certainly didn't have you in mind. Your name and whatever school you represent was not cemented in my memory until right now.

I do think Middlebury should be included in any list of top schools, and I also think that Haverford should be.

I am not parsing these distinctions.

All I have said was that Williams was a good fit for my son. Does not make Williams a superior school, and I have said as much.
