Haverford vs. Wesleyan (international, humanities, lgbtq+)

Hi!
(I did post a similar post on the college selection forum, but I’m posting some questions here as well!)

Right now, I’m leaning toward Haverford than Wesleyan, so I’m kinda looking for some reassurance that I’m making the right choice… or maybe the opposite, if you think that I should reconsider.
I am an international humanity lgbt student, interested in pursuing political philosophy or gender studies.
More of an introvert than outgoing, and not really into athletics either. I wanted to avoid too much of a party/greek scene, which both schools satisfy I think. From what I’ve heard, both schools are welcoming to diverse cultural backgrounds and lgbtq+ as well.
I don’t think there would be a much difference in academic quality as well. Hopefully, both schools would provide great programs on either philosophy or poli-sci. Haverford’s gender studies curriculum(with Bryn Mawr) is a great plus as well.

Few of my concerns are-
How is the lgbtq+/activist scene in the campus? Right now in my home region, I’m taking role in a lot of lgbt/feminist/labor activism(rallies, campaigns etc.) While Haverford maintains an inclusive, open atmosphere, I was concerned that I wouldn’t be able to voice strongly enough in case it’s against the ‘confrontation’ part of the honor code. That is, are students able to voice their opinions (perhaps political, or even far-left) even if it may outrage the rather conservative part of the student body? (I mean, of course as long as these opinions don’t go to offend anyone, although I’m not sure if that’s at all possible)
I really want a diverse, liberal atmosphere in which a lgbt international student doesn’t have to feel discomfort in the community.

Also, would there be any differences when I’m applying for grad school/jobs with a degree from either Haverford or Wesleyan? Haverford is doing so well on all the rankings, but Wesleyan is on top 10 on Forbes, with the alumni exploding recently. While this should never ever be an important factor, I couldn’t help but resort to the numbers as an outsider. Any firsthand insights on this matter would extremely help.

Thanks for your help in advance! With less than a week to decide, I was getting really nervous about this… ;D

Perhaps younger alum know better, but Haverford Honors Code, and the model of “confrontation”, was not about censoring speech, it was things like, you can ask someone to turn down the music in the dorm, because you have a big test or even, because there is a strong sense of community, the other student wouldn’t even play loud music in the first place because they knew that it could disrupt other people. Haverford’s culture is less about being “confrontational” in the sense of looking for things to challenge and attack but rather about respecting each other. It is a community where students are not competitive with each other academically, it is a collaborative, but still rigorous community.

I totally agree with everything Midwestmomofboys just said. Plus, the environment at Haverford is already pretty liberal. I’m not sure who you would “argue” with. LOL!

I wouldn’t worry about employment after graduation from either school. They’re both top colleges.

Which one “feels” better to you when you’re there? That’s the real question.

Not even close. Haverford the people are so nice, kind, and accepting.

@bw1126 - what did you decide, and how has it worked out?
