Hawaii- travel

Actually, it is the Honolulu Mayor mandating gathering size limits. The Gov is just urging no travel.

S’s business trip to Hawaii was just cancelled. They had all sorts of protocols in place, but circumstances prevented the event from happening. All good, but it means S will not get paid…

Yup—most events in our state have been canceled due to covid surge. Our hospitals are out of space.

I’m in the middle of helping a bride with a previously postponed wedding rescheduled for November in a remote area on the Big Island. Their family are local in Honaunau

I cannot figure out if the 25 person outdoor event limit is Oahu only, or across all islands. Of course, it’s none of my business, they will need to make a tough decision.

As far as I know, it was only the mayor of Honolulu that imposed the indoor and outdoor max limits at this time but who knows what the mayor of Hawaii county will do? The Big Island has lower VAX rates than Oahu and even fewer hospital beds and is also having a surge in cases.

As of Aug 24, Big Island mayor wanted to crack down on beach gatherings to slow covid spread. He’s urging group sizes to be less than 10 as of that date. They were having 8.4% positivity rate. Hospitals were overwhelmed then and have gotten worse.

Safe Gatherings - Hawai‘i DOH: Info & Resources for Managing COVID-19 says that there is a statewide limit of 10 for indoor gatherings and 25 for outdoor gatherings.

https://www.oneoahu.org/reopening-strategy says that Honolulu’s limits are the same as for the state.

https://coronavirus-response-county-of-hawaii-hawaiicountygis.hub.arcgis.com/ says that Hawaii County has a limit of 10 for both indoor and outdoor gatherings.

Seems like these limits do not take into account the full difference in risk between indoor and outdoor gatherings (indoor is probably around 20 times more risky for spreading COVID-19).

So far, one big event in Honolulu we’ve been eyeing has not been rescheduled. But I have big doubts it will happen as planned.

What event is that? The Honolulu Marathon?

Sent you a PM!

We just keep putting my trip to Hawaii off again and again. It was supposed to happen early 2020. Oh well.

D2’s roommates ended up house sitting/dog sitting for a family for an extra 8 days because the wife was sick just days after getting to Hawaii with Covid. The adults were fully vaccinated before going from San Diego to Hawaii. D2 and the roommates still have the younger dog staying at their house because the mom and dad were both still not feeling well when they returned last Friday and they have 2 young children.

Goskid returned Monday from Big Island wedding. It was at a ranch, but two big events held at Fairmont hotel. Lots of people. Didn’t see a lot of masks. Event planner required all to submit vaxx proof prior to arrival. Fingers crossed for all of them!

If you have to fake something, at least learn how to spell it… :joy:

To be fair, “mandets” might be a new slang for male body parts…

And another couple who thought they could fake it… did not make it (to the beach).
