What kind of careers are offered with a bachelors degree in Health Science? I'm thinking about majoring in this but I have no clue what jobs are offered. Is Physician Assistance (PA) a possible career choice? Please, talk to me!

Yes. As long as you take the required courses for PA schooling. At Rice a lot of the Health Science majors are either looking to go into Medical School or Public Health/Health Policy.

I’m planning to do a Masters of Public Health and Masters of Business Administration (MPH/MBA) in order to do healthcare consulting, healthcare financial analyst, President of a Hospital, Senior director at some non-profit healthcare organization, a CEO at some biotech related company, Director of some agency in the World Health Organization… Public health is so open ended it’s ridiculous. Obama is going to spend billions on Public health initiatives so it’s a brighter future for Public health related professions (which was probably looked down upon just like primary care physicians and general practioners since it didn’t have the financial allure of specialized doctors who make $$$)

Many go on to become doctors… Check out Johns Hopkins. It’s #1 in the world for Public health.

Do you want to be a physician assistant? If so, there are a few paths you can take to get there. I don’t know what a BS in health science, alone, can do.

awww thank you everyone. i plan on taking the required courses for PA schooling. the college im going to actually has a PA program that’s extremely competitive. im undeclared right now but im leaning towards PA & Health Science. my advisor gave me the choice to take a few Health Science classes to see if i’ll like them. i know i can do it but im not sure about the jobs. that’s why, i thought if i DID end up getting my BS in Health Science – would it be possible to direct my path into becoming a PA. i’d probably have to go back to school & take some more required classes. im sure a BS in Health Science can get me plenty of jobs in a hospital, right?

Phead128 - don’t forget to look at MHA (Master of Health Administration) programs. There are some excellent ones out there, and most require an internship experience - which is not necessarily required of MPH and MBA programs. Also, the MHA allows you to learn the business aspects (finance, law, ethics, etc) from the healthcare perspective.

I am very familiar with the program at Tulane, but there are many others.

Many school require health care experience before admitting students to a P.A. program. Find out what your school requires. I know people who became EMTs just to get into the program. There are a few schools who will take juniors that have the prerequisite classes. They graduate with a masters in P.A. at the end of 5 years.
