Heeelllllpppppp please :(:(:(:(:(:(

heloo everyone
My name is bipin, and i am currenly a student in a public high school in jamaica.
The education system here is slightly different from the American. High school here is completed at 11!th grade but then there is a 12th and 13th grade. In the 12th and 13th grade, the courses we do are considered as advanced courses by US colleges.
Our finals are basically regionally (caribbean- Wide) exams that are sat in 11th, 12th and thirteenth grade. the highest score in these exams is known as a distinction, followed by a credit, pass, and then fail.

My Stats are:
SAT scores- 1800,
SAT II Bio- 720, Chem-670, Math Level 1-610

Ive Sat 11 subject exams in 11th grade, I attained 9 distinctions and 2 credits which equates to a Weighted GPA of about 4.4

Distinctions were in Biology, physics, Information Technology, Principles of business, Principles of Accounts, Spanish, English Language, English Literature and Social Studies.
Credits in Chemistry and Math

In 12th grade i took the maximum number of courses available which was 4, Math, Chem, Bio and communication studies...I attained 4 distinctions which equates to a weighted GPA of about 4.5

I have done volunteer work in form of providing health care to lesser fortunate in rural areas of Jamaica.

I was the Head prefect in my high school, as well as the soccer captain and sports house captain. I was leading goal scorer in the interhouse soccer competition

i play competitive golf, i used to do martial arts. Shaoto Kan and Kung Fu

I am the PRO of the Environment Club as well as the treasuer in the United Nations society.

in high school i was the PRO of the Key Club as well as the Vice President of my former Interact Club.
for work experience, ive worked in a formal company business setting

but the most interesting job ive had involved working with dolphins.
i started as beach attendant but in about 10 weeks worked my way up to a junior dolphin trainer. I was able to fully run dolphin shows and programs with the company's patrons. It took the other employees there around a year and a half before given this privelege.

I think ve gotten all of it in

oh, all my school GPAs are around 3.5 unweighted.

I hope to pursue a career in medicine
im on the edge of my seat fearing rejection

hi bipin your chances look good! great course load and extracurriculars. if you’re looking into medicine or combined programs i think you should try to get even more experience in the medical field though. btw what are your individual sat scores?

It sounds like you’ve worked really hard and done well! I don’t know where you applied but I think you have a good chance at a number of really good schools. Being from Jamaica will help because as far as I’ve seen it’s not a well represented country, but if you need financial aid it might be difficult. It seems like you’re in a grade equivalent to America’s 12th grade so you already applied? If so where?

hey guys o im applying to wakeforest, wesleyan and kalamazoo, and poznan university of med sci in poland

i really hope i can get in, i actually have been reading other persons chances thing and it made me scared :s
lol

my individual scores are 570 reading, 600 math, 610 writing… theyre ntn great compared to what ive seen so im actually scared

also im not even sure what to do business or medicine
*sigh
i dont wana make the mistake and go to poland when an american education wud have been ideal…
poland is an english 6 yr MD course
id do the med program in my country but facilities arent that great and the degree is MBBS which is far less accepted tghan the MD … plus i hope ioll be able to live and work in the states

oh and also i dont think i mentioned it… for medicine what i do is volunteer with a community centre in one of the poorest areas in jamaica. and what we do is house visits to persons in the community who cant afford health care and so forth… these ppl live basically below the poverty line… the nurses at the community centre are actually polish…
as well as the doctors
ive been taught about alot of common pain blood pressure and constipation medicines as well as how to read blood pressure take blood and stuff

im not a great essay writeer thts why i chose schools who dont really rewquire much essay writing
i wrote my essay about the first time i was fully in charge of a dolphin with guests! and how scary it was and how i totally screwed up but what i learnt from it and stuff
hope it makes the cut

i think most of your profile looks pretty good, it seems balanced and strong at the same time, with pretty much all important aspects covered.
if you’re up for advice…you might want to try to retake the SAT again if you’ve only taken it once ir twice. while i wouldn’t advise that you take it more than three times, i bet you could raise your score a little bit with a retake. but don’t interpret that as having a low SAT, because you don’t, i just think there’s potential to raise it a little bit.

good luck!!

PS-don’t let other CC posters’ SAT scores get you thinking that yours is really low. people on here are WAY too obsessed with getting perfect scores…i’ve seen kids complain about a 2380 because it was “a really crappy low score”. that’s just weird :)

hey thanks alot!!!
well to be honest wid u
i didnt study much ebcus like our education system is so much different from the americans cus its hard to balance our school curriculums while focusing on applying to schoosl but im really trying
thanks for the advice though
duly noted…
if i dont get in for fall 2010
i will def retake them
and put my all into it and try get over 2000
