Hefty Out of State Tuition

“The only reason why I am torn between Michigan and UF is because I don’t believe Michigan is worth that much money. Do you also believe Duke is not worth the money too?”

If you have to ask if Michigan or Duke is worth the money, than the answer should be NO! The only way anyone should ever consider paying that kind of money is if he/she absolutely loves the school in question.

“I said it’s great to be a Florida Gator”…for FREE!

Have your parents use the money to put a hefty down payment on a home or grad school.

@rjkofnovi thats just false. Every student should ask themselves whether a school is worth the money whether her or she is in love with the school or not. To not think about the cost would just be ignorant.

^^^I agree to a point MichBound15. What I was trying to convey is that if you really want to go to a school and pay full price, you have to really love it. What made you decide that Michigan was worth it? Was there one overwhelming thing that made you know that this was the place for you?

In a clearer response the to OP, I don’t think any school is worth paying full freight unless you can afford to do it without having too much debt. In your case, it seems you can afford to attend any school where you would like to go. Whether the cost is worth it depends on how much you really like the school. Don’t go to Duke just because of the perceived prestige. Go because you couldn’t imagine being happier attending anyplace else. (Where you were accepted of course)

VillageMom: This is incredible, haha.

I understand what you mean, but I am only asking for other people’s opinions. Personally, I think Michigan is worth the money, however, I also think it isnt worth passing up a full ride to UF.
The thing is, I am trying to weigh my options because, although my parents can afford tuition, I would rather not force them to pay. Furthermore, when i say my parents can afford it, I mean that I wouldn’t go in debt, however it may set back my family a good sum. If I had to estimate my family income, it would be between 100k-175k. Therefore you can see how I can afford Michigan. I am just not sure if I should listen to my heart if my heart wishes for my family to get set back 55k. Simply put, I am trying not to be selfish with my family income.
Anyways, thank you for the responses everyone!

Go to UF rjn0101. It is a very good school and that you can attend it for free is very impressive. Save your parents money for graduate school. In any case, congrats! :-)

Thanks man! Also, thank you very much for all of your advice and participation in this thread! (: Just wondering, but (assuming you are a high school senior), what are your plans for college?

I might act juvenile, but I am way older than you think! LOL

I mean if they can pay tuition in full but you’re also riddled with guilt about it, just give the $55k to a homeless dude. As i figured though, they would take on debt. OOS full pay is for those with no concept of money. Duke would therefore be no less selfish a decision, unless u plan on paying all of that back to them.

Oh, okay! Not a problem! Anyways, thank you sir!~
