My guess would be that tuition, room and board total would be at least halfed if not more. They are also good with work study and sub loans for students which are not a lot but help. There are tons of work/staudy jobs on campus. It depends on your EFC , there are worksheets somewhere on line, do a search on CC to get an estimate

i guess i'm a little naive when it comes to this, but what does efc and cc stand for?

When you fill out the FAFSA you will recieve an EFC (estimated family contribution). It is not based solely on salary but on assets etc. This is what the schools use to determine formulas of what you need from them. USD has the Profile as well. The sooner you fill them out the better your chances are of recieving aid. CC is college confidential, I know i have seen posts on here re: where you can fill out a form and get an estimate. Hope that helps.

Arizonamom...our EFC based on our estimated incomes (will file status) is about $18000 (we'll have two kiddos in college next year). But that will likely increase to about $20,000 because our salaries are a bit higher this year...not a lot, but some. We're hoping for some kind of aid...merit and/or needbased to offset the costs this coming year.

Has anyone else heard from USD yet for EA?

DD has checked the USD site and they say Jan 31. What is annoying is that apparently (from a post above) USD DID send some EA letters in December. I can't believe they would send some of them and not all of them. I find this odd.

Thumper1 you should get a very good package from them, good luck, as I said they are failrly generous. There was only 1 other school that offered my D more that was private, and that was because she was a finalist for their top leadership scholarship.

does anyone know about their business program? is it well respected throughout socal or the san diego business area? i plan on business economics possibly minoring in finance

I believe business and sciences are their strong aeas of study

Im currently at Northeatern University in Boston, MA and am looking at transferring to USD. Does anybody have any idea how generous USD us with financial aid for transfer students?

hey i just found out the my efc is 5374 what kind of aid can i expect from usd? any idea or estimation would be much appreciated

wow, i just recieved my acceptance letter today in the mail!
i'm happy beyond words!!
anyone else??

oh, and both my parents and i are just wondering: They sent me an additional letter attached saying that i'm one of the presidential scholars and that i'll be awarded $10,000. and well, i'm not saying $10,000 isn't appreciated, but is that all they're going to offer me? we're middle class folks, so even with the $10,000 it'll still be hard for us to pay for the rest of the tuition >_O

Congratulations Bluechopsticks on your acceptance and financial aid offers!! DD has been accepted (EA) but likely won't qualify for any merit aid. That $10,000 scholarship is just wonderful. Perhaps you'll qualify for some need based aid as well. Is USD your first choice??

Bluechopsticks-
Congratulations!
I think the $10,000 is the amount attached to the Presidential Scholarship, which is a merit award.
I'm guessing your need based financial aid will arrive later.

Bluechpstick, that is what happened with my D. She recieved her scholarship first and on top of that a very good fin aid package so more to come, congradulations!!!!!!

How do they give out the leadership award? If you got it, would you have gotten it with your acceptance letter?

I got the Trustee Scholarship, but does USD give you more financial aid after you decide to go to the school? My parents are separated so our income is only 33k, is there any estimate of what I could get? I have noooo idea. I'm really confused because I loooove USD, but public school is usually cheaper right?

Thank you

Not necessarily, with aid a private school can be better, or at least similar, my D heard about the rest of her money after. It usually gets posted on line. It will go off your EFC. I don't think being separated helps they will still look at both incomes. Once you know your EFC you will have a good idea of what finaid you will get.

what would an efc around 6,000 get in fin aid

Well, my mom talked to our tax guy and we are able to only claim my mom's income ($33k) cause they are separated and my dad lived in Holland and he makes money not in the US. Anyways...

Sorry, I guess this is a stupid question and my mom would prob know the answer, but what's EFC? income?

Thank you, arizonamom

estimated family contribution The forms you fill out such as FAFSA will give you an amt you are expected to contribute based on a formula. This is what they base aid off of. Best of luck, keep us informed!
