hello?

Hey, is anyone else applying here or go here? know anything about financial aid?

DD applied EA and is just waiting until the end of January to hear.

MikeYanks USD is very generous with finaid!Good luck! My D is a freshman there

Does anyone know if EA decisions include a finaid award? Also, Arizonamom...when you say they are generous...what sorts of stats do students need to avail themselves of that generosity.

Our son applied for EA. He is a NROTC scholarship recipient. How does your daughter like the school?

My daughter is a current freshman. She had 1250 SATs (& 730 writing)and a B+ average at a competitive east coast public school. She got no aid. That said, she is really enjoying the school. She did get homesick in mid-October once the novelty wore off. That seems to be over now, and she is having a great time. Her classes are ok, some better than others, and none overly challenging. All classes are relatively small (under 40 kids) and she seems to know all her professors. The campus is beautiful, the weather is great, I guess there is really nothing not to love.

My D has a 1320 , 3.77 GPA and recieved a scolarship but also a finaid grant which was nice, she recieved nothing from Pepperdine in respect to scholarship or finaid so in comparison it was great. She has made wonderful friends and has a great dorm Missions A with tons of room in her suite and views of the bay. She does want a car for sophomore year though has lots of friends with cars. Her classes are very small many around 20. She knows most of her professors well and they have been very helpful and available. She is applying to the honors college for next semester. They have great professors in the honors college we have heard. I believe my D recieved her scholarship when her decision came in or soon after. The finaid was later.Feel free to ask any other questions. The food can get boring per my D's report, San Diego is great, people seem very friendly.

If my son is admitted, his r/board will be paid for as an NROTC perk through USD as long as her works 8 hrs a week. He is planning on majoring in Phsyics. He really likes the idea of a high percentage of females! He is a weightlifting addict, so how is the weight room? Is there a pool for the studentbody to use? If he doesn't get an appointment to USNA, he will be thrilled to go to USD because he can finally get some sun.

Provided below is a link to a photo gallery of the athletic facilities at USD:

http://usdtoreros.collegesports.com/facilities/usd-facilities.html

If I recall correctly, the weight room and swimming pool are open to the student body except when varsity teams are using them.

I believe there is a seperate weight room for varsity athletes and one for students. My D did cross country but I know she and her suite mates work out together a lot and they are not on any teams. I know my D used the pool a lot when she had an injury . There are definitely a lot of girls there, a guys paradise. My H said he wouldn't have minded a school like that when he was a student, hmmmm.

My youngest D was just accepted EA and offered great merit $. Her older brother is a senior at USD and loved all 4 yrs. Really enjoyed intramural basketball. Other two older siblings went to UCLA and UCSB, but smaller environment at USD is a plus. Can't beat the location.

Congratulations Maryc on your daughter's acceptance. Does this mean that the EA acceptances are on the way for everyone (I sure hope so!!). And congratulations on the merit aid offer as well. We are not expecting any merit aid...but hope does spring eternal....

Hey, what were ur D's stats that she got merit award for, how much would a middle class student with a 1210 sat and great ec's get with roughly a 3.5?

I assume EA decisions are in the mail. D rec'd hers on 12/16. Re: her stats---SAT 2070, GPA 4.36, 5 on AP English and lots of ECs.

Well...DD applied EA and has NOT received anything from USD yet. We live on the east coast, but still...Maybe they start with the top of the applicant pool and work down. My daughter's total SAT's were 1850 (650 Math, 580 CR, 650 writing)...GPA 3.87 W and in top 5% of high school class...so she is not as high as maryc's daughter. Maybe they sent the acceptances...and not the rejections :(

thumper1---your D's stats look better than my older son's, and he was accepted EA four years ago. I am sure she will receive good news soon. USD did say that all the results may not be sent til later in January. My D was surprised to hear before Christmas.

They also have a leadership scholarship which is related to activities and contributing to school and community. Good luck to everyone!

Hey so if anyone here knows anything about the financial aid business around here could you tell me what is an approximation of how much aid i will get.

-writer/director for student performed one acts
-60k's a year household income (maybe a little more or less but its somewhere around there)

so if i could get an idea of how much i would get this would be very helpful. This is my #1 choice school so anything would be much appreciated, thanks!

If you find out anything, Mike, let us know also. Your stats and my daughters are very similar. To be honest, we were not expecting any merit aid at all from U of San Diego. Hoping...but not expecting...

Her stats..

Not Catholic

thumper, from what i hear they are extremely generous with aid, about 70% of the students there recieve some sort of aid with the average amount being somewhere around 15k's a year. I really hope that that's true that would help a lot. The thing with my situation is that if i get around 15k's from the school whether that be in scholarships, grants, workstudy's or whatever i'll be able to attend and if not well then i'm screwed. its my #1 choice by far and can't see myself going anywhere else. It's also (from what i hear) an extremely wealthy student body. I think i met someone who said it was where rich people in southern california sent there kids to get rid of them.
