Finally, I want to close by saying that Duke is my dream school. I have been wanting to go there since my freshman year of high school, and I have an older sibling who also attends there.
I WILL EARLY DECISION TO DUKE- i will be applying to the BME program and I will also be retaking the SAT's in an effort to boost my math SAT score. Once again here is a list of my schools

Duke
UF
Emory
WashU
Columbia (if SAT's drastically raise)
Carnegie Mellon
Northwestern
Cornell
UCSD
UChicago

Thanks!!

Hey I'm glad to chance you ... but can you chance me as well? <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/538677-please-chance-me-i-d-really-really-appreciate.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/538677-please-chance-me-i-d-really-really-appreciate.html</a>

Your GPA is good, but your SAT of 2060 is kinda low --- bump it up at least 100 points. Your extracurriculars are very impressive --- to find a balance between athletic commitments, school work, and ECs is very difficult to accomplish. Congrats on that (I couldn't do that). Your research work should also help you in admissions.

*Chances: *
Duke: Reach (SATs will hurt you, GPA will hurt slightly)
University of Florida: In (IB + research internship should put you in)
Emory: Slight reach
WUSTL: Reach
Columbia: FAR reach (SATs will kill you, GPA won't help entirely, ECs will help)
Carnegie Mellon: Match
Northwestern: Slight reach
Cornell: Slight reach
UCSD OOS: Slight reach
UChicago: Slight reach (but difficult to really predict b/c of emphasis on essays)

Good luck!

i will chance you. could you do the same for me?
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/534699-chances-upenn-usc-ucla-etc.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/534699-chances-upenn-usc-ucla-etc.html</a></p>

im gonna be plain and simple. here is what i think your chances are.

Duke reach
UF safety
Emory match
WashU reach
Columbia reach
Carnegie Mellon match
Northwestern reach
Cornell reach
UCSD match
UChicago little reach

sorry...but what's the point of applying to Columbia and Cornell if you're applying to Duke ED??? Isn't Duke the easiest of those 3 to get into?

cornell has lower average SAT's, hence my decision to apply there
and i will only be applying to columbia if SAT's increase 150+ or my ACT's are in the 32-36 range.

bumppp........

anyone else?

I think that if you ED at Duke, and raise your SAT by 100 or more points, that you have an alright chance! Best of Luck to you!

thx TranceGod.
I also heard that Duke considers personal/character qualities when considering an applicant..... I believe my social skills is one of my strongest assets.
Is this "personal qualities" factor a myth or does it truly make a difference?

Strengths: Excellent ECs/Awards/Leadership; Extremely Rigorous Courseload
Weaknesses: GPA; SATs

Unfortunately, your two weaknesses are the initial factors any admissions officer will consider in evaluating your application. Therefore:

Duke (ED) - Reach
UF - In
Emory - Match
WashU - Low Reach
Columbia (if SAT's drastically raise) - Reach
Carnegie Mellon - High Match
Northwestern - Low Reach
Cornell - High Match/Low Reach
UCSD - Reach (out of state)
UChicago - (assuming you write amazing essays) Low Reach/High Match; Otherwise Reach

I must say, however, being on a championship football team as an Asian kid in Florida is quite impressive. So, props for that :)! You'll end up in a good school so you don't have to worry. Good luck.

thx.
would it be wise to ed to duke?
do i have a fair shot in ED, or should I not even try and focus elsewhere.
could someone try and give me a % chance i would get in?

anyone??...

If you really, really want to go to Duke more than anywhere else and you are 100% positive (I assume you've visited, since your sibling goes there), I would just apply ED. Try to raise your SATs by the time you apply and definitely take the ACT. With your current stats, I doubt you'll be flat out rejected by Duke. You may be deferred to regular decision, but if that's the case, there's not much harm done, right?

true true..

I see Duke accepting you ED, especially if you write great essays. But as you know it can be a crapshoot.

ahh yes. the crapshoot.
