I am helping a family member of mine with the college search and she is having difficulty deciding between the following schools:
Colgate
Grinnell
Kenyon
Sewanee
Wake Forest
While I know that the student bodies at these schools are all very different, she does not really fit in with one specific group. Her friends in high school range from the activist types that are more likely to be at Grinnell/Kenyon to the more preppy/athletic types that are found more at the other choices. She fits somewhere in between and would like a school where she can be friends with all sorts of different types of people. Money is not the main concern, but Sewanee is about half the price of the other choices. She did like her visit to Sewanee, but is worried that it might be too “southern” and she wouldn’t fit in (we are from the Midwest). Kenyon also offered her a merit award and would be about 10-15k less than Colgate, Grinnell, and Wake.
She is not 100% sure what she wants to do, but has an interest in chemistry, specifically cosmetic chemistry. She also has talked about economics and I could see her going into some sort of business profession. She also has an interest in music and would like to be involved in dance and musicals, but I don’t think she would want to major or minor in it.
Thank you!
