Hello. I am a high school senior with a large number of intellectual pursuits, but I have no clear outline of what “job” I would like to have. My primary passions are Economics, Cognitive Science, Computer Science, Political Science, Astronomy, and Philosophy. I know this covers a wide array of fields which is why I need help condensing what I want to do. I want to be an innovator, but I also want to study the universe, and effect the political landscape of the world. If I could be anyone it would be a combination of Steve Jobs, Albert Einstein, and Christopher Hitchens. Thanks!
You don’t have to decide your major now. Enter college, take a wide variety of classes, and decide what’s interests you. You might even be able to find several of those interests into one
Im looking for prospective jobs. Is there anything that combines all my interests?
The theory side of economics is at times indistinguishable from philosophy (for example argumentation ethics) so you can double major in that, and the practical side of economics goes well with computer science. You can major in economics and philosophy and then for graduate school either continue that track or switch to behavioral economics which combines most of your other interests. With an education like that you should have no trouble finding a career.
So a few things come to mind.
First of all, Cognitive Science is a degree that draws from a lot of different aspects, so you might find that more interesting.
Secondly, perhaps you could look into Applied Economics, or behavioral economics as @Goldz09 suggested.
Third, Astronomy is significantly different from all of the other interests, so unless you want to hyper-focus on it, just leave it as a minor or take astronomy for your general education science requirements.
