Help? Any opinions on my major/college career please?

I'm getting to the point in my college career where I really need to commit to some major/path of study or whatever you want to call it, and I've been agonizing over this for a while now, so I was hoping to get some other people's opinions/advice about my situation.

So to give you an idea about what I'm talking about...

I started school having no idea what I wanted to do, except probably something in the sciences because of whatever naive perception I had of science majors when I was younger, and I decided to take pre-med courses as well, just to cover my bets. From the beginning I had chemistry in my mind as a possible major just because I liked chemistry in high school, my sister was a chemistry major, but it was more of a process-of-elimination choice. I was very much all about keeping all my possible options open for as long as possible (it scares the heck out of me to have to declare a major), and my parents encouraged me to "explore" and find what I liked etcetc. So time passes and I decided I really do want to go to med school, if I can get in. I also found out I kind of like computer science after taking some intro programming classes.

So my school offers two chemistry degrees. One is much more rigorous and has more lab classes, and they say it is for people who intend to go to grad school in chemistry. The difference is mainly the amount of pchem. The other they say is " a flexible program with a core of chemistry courses and lots of room for a personalized plan or double major." (Though there are people who double major with the more rigorous degree.)

I am currently kind of settled on the less rigorous chem major with a minor in computer science. I explored the idea of some sort of double major, but I didn't really like that I would then have to pretty much take all chem and cs classes for the rest of my time here, with pretty heavy courseloads each semester, and only then just scrape by with my requirements. Plus, I'm really intimidated by the cs majors here. Plus, although I hate to admit it, since I do want to go to med school, I do have to be concerned with my GPA... In terms of chem, I'm very nervous about the more rigorous pchem courses, which I have heard is very very difficult.

However, because of whatever preconceived impressions I got about double majoring or whatever from...society or something, I'm really hung up on the fact that I'm doing the "fake" or "easy" chemistry major (although it is a real degree), and I'm not even double majoring in something else...

I'd really appreciate any opinions what-so-ever about my situation, whether you think my reasoning is legitimate or whether you think I'm a wuss and a cop-out. I may just have these ridiculous notions in my mind, and it would really help to hear what other (not crazy, haha) people think about this type of situation and double majoring or whatever.

To anyone who read all of that and is willing to put in their two cents, thank you so so much, I really appreciate it!

The question is if your major is perceived as “fake” or “easy” by other colleges/employers. Is it a BA in Chem as opposed to a BS? That could make a big difference. Is it called “Chemistry” as opposed to “Applied Chemistry” or something? That won’t make a big difference unless the school is well-known for having one of the majors be easy.

Similar to my situation lol. I am also pre-med and enjoy computer science classes. I definitely don’t have time to double major because I have honors obligations on top of my general reqs grrrr. Have you considered biochem? That’s what I was planning on doing…then taking as many comp sci courses as I have room for haha.
