I’m currently a junior in high school. I’ve always imagined that having a degree in biology would be the most appealing to medical schools/PA schools, but I’ve realized that this isn’t the case at all. I’ve always liked biology, but looking at the career prospects of bio majors that get rejected from med school, I’m a bit worried.
Recently, I’ve been looking into other degrees that may have better job prospects if I’m not part of the 17% of pre-med students that actually go to medical school. I’ve looked into biomedical engineering, but the information on it is really contradictory? Some say it’s a good degree to have and provides a wide range of career opportunities yet other resources call it a scam with little career value? Also, I haven’t been doing anything related to engineering.
Is biomedical engineering a valuable major? Will it stand out on med school applications? What about Health Sciences and future prospects? What are some other majors that are related somewhat to something in the sciences that have decent career opportunities?
I know it might be too early to be thinking about all this, but I want to be sure in a major so I can find colleges that fit me in the near future, while also preparing for my adult life after I graduate from college.
