Help choosing? (Alabama or NC State)

Hi everyone I'd just like some extra input on my college decision. This is my first post but I've been reading CC for a while. Sorry in advance if my post is hard to understand or has jumbled thoughts.

Anyways, my college list has come down to two universities, NC State and University of Alabama. I'm a resident of NC and will be majoring in engineering. I received a huge scholarship from Alabama (full tuition +2500) and am waiting to hear back about scholarship money from NC state, but I expect to get at least some (3.86 GPA and 1460 M+CR). I will not get any financial aid and my parents would be comfortable paying for either place. I have visited both campuses and like them both. Alabama seems to roll out the red carpet for excellent students. Both schools have brand new engineering buildings. I plan on participating in Greek Life. I think I would be happy at either Alabama or NC state.

If anyone can help me make this decision that would be great!

Go to the very popular Bama forum here on CC for help…

My younger son is graduating from Bama this May with his degree in Chemical Engineering. He’s been accepted to 3 US MD med schools so far. :)

For engineering, the variance from school to school, especially the like of Alabama and NCSU, is not that big a gap. The technical job market in NC is definitely better than AL. But Georgia is the neighbor next door so I suppose the Atlanta market must be accessible to AL grads. I’d go with the lower cost option if I were you.

Ok thanks I will!

The technical job market in NC is definitely better than AL

?? What the heck?

The state of Alabama is home to the second largest research park in the NATION…Cummings Research Park.

*Major industries in CRP are aerospace, defense, engineering, biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, software development and information technology.
*

I doubt that the technical job market is better in NC.

Are you sure about the size? According to the Wikipedia, RTP is the largest in the world. ;)

“The Research Triangle Park (RTP) is the largest research park in the world.[1][2][3] It is located near Durham, Raleigh, and Chapel Hill, in the Research Triangle region of North Carolina.”

Yes, RTP is the largest in the US and CRP is the 2nd largest. That doesn’t mean that the job market in RTP-NC is “definitely better” than that of CRP-Alabama… That’s ridiculous.

It’s like saying someone with a $5.1 billions dollars is “definitely a better business person” than someone with $5.09 billion dollars. If a girl was looking for rich guy to marry, and her dad said, “oh, forget the second guy, the first guy is definitely better” that would be silly.

And…CRP is growing. new tech companies appearing all the time…so that means…JOBS.
