My son is in the fortunate position of having to choose between some great options for acting BFA programs. He was accepted at NYU, BU, Rutgers, Ithaca and DePaul. He’s visited all of them and has it narrowed down to DePaul and BU with a preference for BU. Does anyone out there have any reason why choosing BU over DePaul (with large scholarship) would be a big mistake? Or any insights or personal experience with BU? He loved them both but preferred the flexibility in the BU program, the study abroad requirement at BU and the close knit family feeling at BU. Any thoughts would be great and much appreciated! Thank you
I just answered on the MT thread
BU is awesome and sounds like the right fit for your son. That is the most important thing if all other things are equal. Is the scholarship to BU? If so, there is no reason not to chose BU.
Thanks for the affirmation. That’s my instinct as well. Scholarship is from DePaul actually. But had such a strong connection to BU.
Congratulations to your Son! What a wonderfully reaffirming dilemna for him to have!!!
I think my D would have chosen DePaul over BU in a heartbeat, although she loved BU and would have been thrilled if she was accepted.
From a financial perspective, I personally would have a really, really, really hard time blowing off the least expensive option of the two. Have you contacted BU about the DePaul scholarship to see if they’d counter?
What about travel costs? Would he be able to drive to one vs. flying, or are both far away from home?
I just think you can’t go wrong with either choice. I live in Boston '85-'92, and its still one of my favorite cities, a great place to go to school. I now live outside of Chicago, another great city. S and I attended a DuPaul play and were blown away, it was fantastic. If finances aren’t the deciding factor, listen to the gut.
