Hi! Just wondering, How often to university professors email back?
I recently applied to this intensive summer program at a topnotch university. late last night I sent an email to the director of the program (who is also a professor) regarding my application and certain circumstances regarding it. I DID NOT try to make any excuses whatsoever. However, I did mention my weak grades. and mentioned my curiosity to see if they place more emphasis on the pieces of work you submit and an applicant's ability/interest in such cases. Is it a bad thing if he didn't email me back yet? do you possibly think he ignored it and emailing him was a bad move that possibly might affect my admission decision?? Or Is it possible that he just hasn't checked his email yet and I'm acting like a paranoid fool?? i'd rlly appreciate any advice or help, and thank you so much beforehand

*I also made sure I was extremely polite in every way

Give it at least a week before you become concerned at the lack of a response. For future reference, it is better to not point out your weaknesses :-). You could have said something like “I am very interested in participating in your program… yadda yadda… If you have any questions or concerns regarding my application, I would like the opportunity to answer them.”

Professors and program directors are very busy people! Good luck!

Mhm. I agree with sMITten. Usually these type of people take a week or so to reply emails. From people like us.

Thanks for the posts and info!
So in all i guess I was just overreacting. I can see that college professors are so overloaded w/ tons of work and w/ their own students, let alone a mere HS junior.
@sMITten, I did mention my weakness, oh no! However, I didn’t elaborate TOO much. Why is it exactly that mentioning weaknesses is bad?
I believe that my letter of rec is excellent (I’d be surprised if it wasn’t and the work that I submitted best reflected my interest and talent, though. But, is it basically ruined? I have clearly expressed how much i rlly wanted to go in my personal statement, but not rlly in my email b/c i didn’t want to sound like begging too much. I guess it’s my fault. im kinda inexperienced at this sort of stuff…
**So does anybody who’s reading this think that my chances for admission have decreased in any way??

Keep in mind that the person you sent the email to likely didn’t run and get your file to see what your other qualifications may have been, you just said “I’m weak”, so that is what he read. I don’t know the content of the rest of your email and if you did point out your strengths. Really, don’t worry about it much, just keep in mind that it is better to focus on the positive when communicating with a decision making person and to just say “if you have any questions or concerns about my application, please contact me” if you want the opportunity to address any weaknesses. It’s better to give them a good impression about your strengths than a bad impression about your weaknesses.

I’m sure you will be fine though and don’t worry! It was good that you made contact, indicating your interest. Good luck!
