Help Finding Match Colleges

Hello,

I'm still searching for some solid match colleges and I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions for me. I am only looking at schools pretty much south of Virginia, as I cannot stand cold weather, but that is not a firm line. I am not positive about my major, but I love math and physics and I am probably going to major in either Computer Science or some type of engineering (maybe mechE). I already have found and compiled a list of schools that I will be applying to so to avoid redundancy here are those schools:
Stanford (Reach)
Harvey Mudd (Reach)
Rice (Low Reach)
Georgia Tech (Match)
UNC Chappel Hill (Match)
Tulane (Match)
Virginia Tech (Safety)
Clemson (Safety)

I live in NC, and I am in the upper middle class, but I'm not entirely sure of my parents income, but I know that their combined income is over 100k. I dont think my parents will pay for anything upwards of 35, maybe 40k a year (I know I have expensive schools on my list.)

I am in the IB Diploma Program and have almost all IB classes due to that.I have a 3.96 UW GPA and a 5.08 W GPA and a 2190 SAT (740 M 710 R 740 W). I have some solid extracurriculars: Varsity Tennis, I started an art club at my school, but I do not have any major hooks that jump off the page. I already wrote my common app essay, and it is good and very representative of me. My recommendation will come from my math teacher, who loves me, so that should be a solid recommendation. So here is all of my info, does anyone have any good match schools for me that I am missing?

(I have already toured NC State and I did not like it at all so please do not recommend that.)

You’d get enormous merit aid at the University of Alabama which would bring the cost down to what your parents could easily afford.

You might want to look into Santa Clara University in Silicon Valley, which has a phenomenal CS program as well as good engineering. I’m not sure how much merit they’d offer you, but it’s worth checking out.

Look at UTK

@whenhen I am actually considering Santa Clara; I just forgot to mention that. I am touring the school next week, and I will see if I am really interested in applying. I am aware that I might be able to get a significant chunk of aid to the school. Thanks for the recommendations! @SeattleBulldogg I’ll look up UTK and check them out as well.

Anyone else have suggestions? I would really appreciate it!

If your parents can not easily pay for Clemson and Virginia Tech, then those aren’t true safeties. A safety needs to be a school you like and know you can afford easily. I don’t know what they cost, but just wanted to point this out so you can look for affordable schools if you need to. Have your parents run the NPC on various school websites so they can tell you whether the schools are affordable or not?

Teachandmom, the OP stated his parents will pay $35-40K. Cost of VTech for OOS is $35K so he is safe. You’re right about Clemson. Cost is $44K for OOS.

Yes Clemson’s cost is 44k for OOS, but their website clearly states that at least 5k of merit aid is awarded to those with at least a 1250 Math+Reading, which I easily have (1450).

Good job researching. Glad you found that.

I would still appreciate some more input if anyone else knows of some other schools that would be good matches for me.
