Some math might help you compare.

Minimum wage in Ohio is $8/hour (rounding from $7.95). Denison is saying you are eligible for 20 hours per week of work (you should find out if that is guaranteed or what, and some jobs may pay more).

Generally you do not HAVE to work 20 if you don’t want to.

Each semester is roughly 15 weeks.

If you took a loan for Denison instead of working the extra hours, how would that work out for you?

BTW, is there a reason why you wanted to transfer from Denison and therefore applied to F&M? Is that reason still valid?
Are you sure the 20hours are during the school year and not during breaks? Most work study awards don’t include that many hours.
wrt to IB credit, I assume you’d get the same as you got at Denison but I honestly don’t think IB credit should be a dealbreaker provided they provide you with some, and i doubt they wouldn’t give you the same as Denison did.

Hello again @lifeismore!
Sorry to intrude on your other thread, but I agree with some people here.

You are majoring in English, and you’re an international student. I don’t know from what country are you, but I suspect that English might not be your first language. Indeed, your english level looks excellent, but I suppose you feel like you haven’t mastered it, which is why you’re choosing that major.

Imo, asking for credits on this major is not a good idea. It would be better if you could take as much classes as possible because of two reasons:

You enjoy college life more! I’m sure you’re going to miss yyour college when you graduate so you should enjoy it as long as possible

It’s better to takes as much classes as possible on an English major.

If you were, for example, majoring on an Engeneering or Math, then asking for credit for classes like Calc I or such isn’t bad. It is actually a good idea since it isn’t a big deal because the sciences are universal, but English isn’t.

My point is, would you be willing to skip classes that can be VERY important to your major just so you can pay less?

I still stick to the idea that you stay at Denison! It’s not a bad school and you won’t have to stress about financial issues! Both F&M and Denison are amazing, but I would stay with Denison if I already have a safe place :).

Good luck again! And sorry if I’m pressuring you instead of helping you…

*Also, if I remember correctly F&M just gives credit for HL courses with a score of 6 or 7. I assume that they say that about getting more than 30 because they assumed you did well on HL courses.

Okay everyone firstly just to clarify I am not transferring from Denison to F&M. I applied as a freshman applicant and got accepted both places but via wait list at F&M. Secondly, I get the confusion that as an international my level of english might not be up to par but it is indeed my first language so that isn’t as much of an issue.

@curtiss most schools treat AP’s and IB similarly (4/5 in AP is like 6/7 in IB).

@MYOS1634 I get most of your points. Eventually it might turn out to be a better deal to not take credit. I just wanted to be fully aware of my options so I can take an informed decision. As it is having an only english degree would not be as effective I guess as if I did a double major or something related to the sort of industry I want to work in.

@NeedHelpSAT no you aren’t pressurizing at all! Hearing definitive opinions is really helpful in making a decision. also welcome to this thread I was trying to get as many opinions as possible thus the multiple posts

I’m glad I could be of help to a fellow international student :)

So have you already decided where you will go?

yes you have to be careful when considering what you ask for credit. But it’s a minor point overall. What did you decide finally?

yes @NeedHelpSAT and @MYOS1634 i decided to stick with Denison finally. Thanks for all your help guys.
