Sorry, what is a “directional Us.”?

Usually state universities that are usually not one of the flagship campuses, often with cardinal directions in their names.

Directional U means lower level state U, usually indicated by direction. North Texas U, East Carolina U, etc…

Ohhhhh I’d never heard that term! I’ll look into those thank you!

Case is not almost a safety. It’s a match. Same with VT. Yes, the issue is the 690 and the lack of a good score on the SATI or II. We also don’t have evidence of excellence in AP Calc AB and that you’re planning to take AP Calc BC. The 4.0 is real nice, but do you have rigor and excellence in mathematics?

safeties must be absolutely affordable, absolutely some place one will get into, absolutely some place one will attend if all else fails, and, of course, have one’s major. That’s why Buffalo is a safety if you will go there if all else fails.

dude, you don’t have to do better than a 690. You just cannot have a safety you have named for 690 and no evidence of excellence and rigor in math. Your gender would actually help you at a place like RPI or RIT.

Penn State

Howard is a safety (with an automatic full ride scholarship for your stats if you apply early enough) that has ABET-accredited engineering and is in your geographic region, but it is in a city (Washington, DC).

Are you aware that RIT has a very large (and good) art program, as well as a big business school? It might not be as narrow in focus as you fear.

What? Carnegie Mellon, Georgia Tech, Illinois and Texas-Austin are among the most difficult colleges to be admitted to in America! Moreover, hordes of state residents with great qualifications are rejected by those public colleges; GT, UT and Illinois.

post #18…OP: Do not apply to Cornell. You WILL be in the library studying all the time.

You now have lots of choices to look into from everyone’s posts. Try UVM (University of Vermont). Great engineering program. Same with UDelaware or Stonybrook. Definitely look into RIT even though it has the word Technology in it’s name. As mamaduck points out, it is a very diverse school with lots of majors across the board.
PS: You need to get that Math SAT score higher. Good luck.

Check out SUNY-Binghamton and Ohio State. Probably close to being safeties for you.

If you visit Ohio, maybe take a look at University of Dayton, and Miami University. UD is a Catholic school with a very solid engineering program; and you won’t meet nicer people on any campus.

Rensselaer is a tech school, and over 70% of students are male.

You already mentioned Purdue, which is almost certainly a safety (math SAT of 690 puts you in the top 25%). However, you won’t find much political awareness. Not zero, of course, but still not a very politically aware campus.
