I hope I can get some solid advice. So I was accepted to BU for fall 213 to CGS. I took it in good faith because BU is a great school and I have faith in myself, I know I can succeed. But lately I’ve been very unsure of my decision. I want to be premed, major in international relations and minor in African studies. I’m scared of grade deflation, finishing on time since I’m CGS and the money. I haven’t been gone on campus and I owe $3661 in fees and insurance. I don’t have books, clothes or even bed sheets. I am appealing but I was wondering if I should just cut my losses and back out now. I’m low income and so haven’t spent anything on BU except $3 for to post my appeal letter. Everything else was waived. I live in Minnesota and I’m think of reaching out to the U of MN for fall enrollment and living at home to save money. I wanted the whole college experience but obviously can’t afford it. Please help, ps I’m African so race does worry me.

65 views and no response… come on. If you can’t give play by play instructions it’s okay because any words of advice can go a long way. smh

Try posting in financial aid and scholarships section. you will definitely get more feedback there. gl

DD just completed CGS. I would definitely call them and tackle your concerns about graduating on time and your widely varied interests. I had a concern at one point and talked to Stacy Godnick, who is one of the Deans. Everyone there is very very nice. Be aware that late July anxiety and second guessing is extremely typical for incoming college students of any type. with your interest in African studies, you will LOVE the Thurman Center. Look it up on line!!!

You can waive the insurance fee if you are covered sufficiently by your parents’ plan.

I know, I tried but none of them have work insurance and minnesotacare isn’t good enough.

I went to BU from Minnesota. Airfare will set you back. (And it is a very long drive.) I would not worry about race, though. BU is quite diverse.

I would call someone from CGS and talk about your concerns. They will run through requirements with you! Also, keep in mind that many college students change their majors-you might not end up wanting major in that by the end of your freshman year

Here’s my story, maybe it will help you. I went to CGS and then went to CAS. I graduated a few years ago. I had to take loans to get through. I am from the midwest and like you had not been to the campus, etc. I knew that I wanted to go to graduate school. It didn’t really work out well for me. I have loans and I am now in graduate school and have more loans. The education was ok, but I think I could have had just as good if not better an experience closer to home without all of the debt. I never felt as though I fit in. Only you know what will work for you. I wish I had listened to the little voice in my head that said, slow down, you can go away for graduate school and owe less money.

ohh no… i have that voice too and it won’t let me be. The U said it’s too late and I’m trying to reevaluate all other options.

movieslove, do you mean that they are insisting you attend? I don’t think they can do that! Def explore all of your LOCAL options. Stay strong!

Thanks my mom is agitated but I can’t give up, she is so supportive and it just makes me feel terrible because i turned down so many great offfers… maybe i turned them down for valid reason.felling like “the grass is green on the other side” right now.

thanks for the support, I’ll try U of MN Duluth… far less competition.
