Help in picking a major!!!! Future undergraduate!!

Hi I’m new to this forum and college in general, I would be grateful for some advice. My end goal is either veterinary medicine or psychiatry. On top of having difficulty finding colleges I’m wondering if I should double major is psychology and biology since I have yet to decide what career I would like to pursue. Please help, I am so confused.

If you want to get an MD (which is what you need for psychiatry), what you major in doesn’t matter, really. You take a sequence of pre-med classes that fulfill the prerequisites for medical school. You can take those with any major. Biology is a very popular pre-med major, but so is psychology; however, you could also major in history, English, computer science, math, art, drama, whatever. Many students choose to major in something they see as a suitable “back-up” career in case they don’t get into medical school or change their minds.

Vet med is kind of similar, except I have heard from others with more knowledge that they do consider your animal experience and knowledge a little more closely there. So animal science or something relevant is probably a good choice major - at most schools, that would be biology, I suppose.
