Help! Looking for a good, cheap engineering school!

<p>Hi everyone,</p>

<p>I am a high school junior from Illinois. I plan to major in Biomedical Engineering. I am really in need of some serious scholarships! I have a passion for math and science, and I love to learn. I want to attend a good institution that gives good scholarships! Any help is appreciated.</p>

<p>-31 Composite ACT

<p>-4.86/5 Unweighted GPA.</p>

<p>-Member of a community service group at my school that does service to better the community's elderly or poor.</p>

<p>-50+ community service hours (Tutoring, church work, soup kitchen, hospital, kids camp, etc.)</p>

<p>-3 years of high school baseball</p>

<p>-1 year of high school football</p>

<p>-Mostly honors and AP courses</p>

<p>-Will have 4 AP classes by the time I graduate.</p>

<p>Go to the Financial Aid Forum, and read the threads on merit-based aid. You probably qualify for some of those universities’ scholarships.</p>

<p>Your stats are great. Try Purdue, out of state tuition is still better than private school tuition.</p>

<p>Purdue’s out of state tuition is hardly “cheap”. Combine that with their unwillingness to give FA to out of staters and if you’re not loaded, good luck. UIUC isn’t exactly cheap either. NIU has an interesting little bio med thing going. At alabama you would receive a full tuition +2500$.</p>

<p>What is “cheap” to you? How much will your family pay?</p>

<p>What do you plan on doing with BioMedE?</p>

<p>Look at your own state school UIUC.</p>

<p>South Dakota School of Mines does not give huge scholarships, but they are a top school, with very low tuition for even out of state.</p>

<p>He says in another thread that his family can pay $10k-15k. UIUC is about $30k+ for instate students. So, not affordable.</p>

<p>Wichita State has some good engineering programs, but it doesn’t offer biomedical. Perhaps you could minor in biology? Wichita also has a really good baseball team, so depending on how good you are you could perhaps net a large scholarship for that. One thing to note though is that WSU is for the most part a commuter school, so if you’re looking for a strong on-campus atmosphere it may not be the best place.</p>
