I’m deciding between Emory, UChicago, Tulane, UCSB, and Wake Forest. I know that it ultimately comes down to my own decision, but I want some outside opinions.
I’m visiting UCSB and Emory next week as my last visits and I hope to make my decision very soon after coming back. I’m planning on majoring in political science and (maybe) minoring in Mandarin Chinese. After the aid I’ve recieved from each, the cost differences are negligible to my decision.
All of the “traditional factors” of the college (academics, athletics, location, weather, etc) are very important to me, and I love many of the aspects of each of my choices. Not quite sure if I want to end up pursuing grad school. Thank you, I appreciate any insight!
U Chicago is pretty good
U Chicago is not only reputed academically but it’s also beautiful AF. They have these awesome gothic buildings and a bunch of their housing and campus buildings are modeled after Hogwarts. Emory is also a strong choice, my sis visited it last summer and loved the location. Idk much about the other schools, but I hope this helped at least a little!
New Orleans is a truly great city and very culturally unique. Political Science has always been very strong at Tulane, especially if you take an interdisciplinary approach such as Political Economy, International Relations or combine poli-sci with an area studies major such as Latin American Studies. Since your focus is on Asian Studies, I recommend following tihs link-- https://liberalarts.tulane.edu/programs/asian-studies – and reaching out to either professor Richard Marksbury or professor Xiuli Qi and finding out more about the opportunities to perfect Mandarin Chinese at Tulane. Interdisciplinary studies are not only strongly encouraged but are very easy to put together at Tulane. The other areas where you’ll have great opportunities at Tulane are in undergraduate research opportunities (very strongly encouraged and facilitated) and community service in New Orleans. (New Orleans really benefits from it!) Congratulations on the Tulane acceptance as well as U of Chicago, UCSB and Emory. I am sure you are aware that, while all of your choices are very different from one another, you really cannot go wrong! Best of luck to you!
