Help me choose

Hi everyone,
I’m finalizing my school list and I just need a reach school. I’m thinking Harvard, Princeton and UPenn because they are all need-blind for Canadians. I’m majoring in Econ. Some info about me: (Our school doesn’t have ranks.) 1590 SAT and 4.6 GPA. Amazing extracurricular that are like world-class and are related to my major. Really good essays and letters of recommendations. Please help me choose! And I don’t intend to apply to financial aid for any school except for the schools need blind for Canadians. (Yale, Harvard, Princeton, UPENN)

By the way, here is my school list.
Canadian:
University of Calgary
University of Ottawa
University of Toronto
McGill University
McMaster University

American:
Harvard/Princeton/UPenn
Cornell
Yale
UC Berkeley
Emory University
NYU
Boston College
Penn State
Virginia Tech

Thank you so much!!

What will your major be? Do you want a city campus? need some more info

It’s unclear how you could require financial aid for some schools but not for others. Nonetheless, if you would like a reach school that meets your criteria, add Amherst.

@merc81 thank you for your opinion. I don’t really like Amherst’s campus that much though. But I will consider it. What I mean is that I don’t need financial aid but it would be nice if I could have some.

@NJdad07090 My prospective major would be Economics and I don’t really prefer a type of setting as long as it isn’t like Dartmouth rural.

@nxoxy1234: In any case, you can visit the sites linked (reply 2) for ideas for colleges notably strong for the study of economics. Applying for some financial aid at need-aware schools may only slightly influence your admission prospects.

What is your unweighted GPA? Do you have all A’s?

UC Berkeley is a great university. However, given how strong McGill and Toronto are (along with your other Canadian universities), is UC Berkeley worth being full pay?

Have you run the NPCs on the US schools?

One thing that you might want to seriously consider is getting your bachelor’s in Canada, and then coming to the US for a master’s degree.

@nxoxy1234 , If you did not like Dartmouth , you can skip both Cornell and Virgina Tech off your list. Penn State is also kinda of in the middle of nowhere . I am a lilt confused you are saying Harvard, Yale, and Penn bc they are need blind for you but that will hurt you chances of getting in if you decide to help you chances by going ED. Some of the other US schools on your list are just as pricey as the 3 ivy’s. If your major is Econ are you thinking grad school as well? If your parents are ok with full pay like 70,000 USD a year that will help you go early decision at your reach school. I assume you are familiar with early decision. I would make sure your parents are willing to write that check it is a lot of money per year and as pointed out you have some excellent colleges in Canada. For a Econ major I would say University of Chicago is worth you taking a look at.

You still have several months to work on your list, so give yourself that time to learn more about the places you’ve included so far, and to find yourself good safety options that you know you can afford without aid, and where you are an auto-admit.

If you don’t need FA, then you probably won’t get FA from any school.
