So my big ECs are my school jazz band (piano, all state), three season running varsity, and my own band (pretty much the only unique thing about me for top school applicant). so for the common app essay i was thinking about discussing the lengths i had to go to in order to get over stage fright (is that even good? i think i can make fairly strong) but then for the 150 word explanation idk what to do.

because i feel like being in a band is the only thing worth explaining considering the other two are fairly commonplace...but i dont want my application to be repetitive do i?

please help!

What’s the 150 word explanation? Is that for a specific institution? If so, yes don’t repeat the same topics lol.

I think stage fright could work as an essay. Could be entertaining, showcase your talents, tell about how you challenged yourself, etc. As long as it’s well written…

I do not think you should use the same topic in the short 150-word answer. The 150 question also gives you the option to discuss a work experience. Any clubs?

uhhh school newspaper. and ive worked for four years at the ymca as a guard and swim teacher. like…my most time consuming EC is running. but thats boring lol. sooo im a bit hesitant.

and thanks! i dont think my writing will be much of an issue…i just need to come up with a good way to spin it.

and no, theres a places to elaborate on an EC in 150 words on the common app elbeeen. thanks!

Oh okay thanks for the heads up that’s news to me!

But I think you should write the common app essay on stage fright and then the 150 word essay on being a YMCA swim teacher, especially if it’s for little kids!
