Help me! I don't know what to do!

I was accepted into my dream school -- Syracuse University. However it is super expensive and I'd have to take out like $40k in loans and I'm not even eligible for that many school loans so it'd be through a bank. I also applied to SUNY New Paltz, CUNY The City College, NYU, The University of Minnesota Twin Cities, and Loyola University Chicago. I have always dreamed of being in New York and am thinking my best option might be CCNY, but would I lose a part of the college experience as there is not as much infrastructure i.e. no meal plan? Needless to say, with my dream college kind of out of the picture (unless anyone thinks its worth that much debt) I don't really know what to do. Help!

Do you mean $40K in loans/year or $40K total over four years?

In loans :/

Oh per year I meant. Ha

Syracuse is not worth $40,000 in loans per year. That’s a total of $160,000! No school is worth that much debt, it will haunt you for years while you pay it off. You can’t borrow that much on your own anyway, your parents will have to cosign, which means they will be liable for it too. If you want to be in NY State but want a more traditional college experience, consider SUNY New Paltz.

What do your other aid packages and costs look like? Try running the numbers here to see if anything else is in the cost range for CCNY: [FinAid | Calculators | Award Letter Comparison Tool](<a href=“Your Guide for College Financial Aid - Finaid”>Award Letter Requirements - Finaid)

The truth is that nationwide, more traditional-age college students commute to school than live on a college or university campus. If you commute to CCNY, you will be having the real college experience.
