Help Me Pick a College

I got into:

Villanova
Boston U
Northeastern
Indiana U

Waiting on:

U Michigan (Deferred)
Cornell (AEM)

Which school would be the best option considering I want to major in finance. If I get into UMich, I'll go there without a doubt, but I'm wondering which one you would choose from the 4 schools that I got into. It seems to me Indiana is the best bet, but overall as a school it isn't too highly regarded right? Kelley is 11th in ugrad biz and 7th in finance, but how good is its placement at ibanking firms? Would you choose any of the others over Indiana? Also, can someone link me to a site that shows the top Finance programs in the country like how they have the top ugrad biz schools? Thx

For finance, University of Michigan...
I guess if you were to choose from the list of places where you got in, Indiana.

The top 5ish finance programs are:
1. PENN Wharton
2. NYU Stern
3. University of Michigan/Ross
4. ?
5. CMU Tepper

Indiana without a doubt...UMICH if you get a seat : )

IU, has the 7th ranked finance program in the country I believe.

Yah I'm leaning towards Indiana, but does anyone know how good their job placement is? It also makes me wonder how good they are considering they have such low standards for acceptance...Pretty much you have to be the cream of the crop at the business school since a lot of people get in easily.

Top companies recruit on IU's campus.

thx mssales...I'd also like to know about how many each company hires. Villanova had a similar site, but most companies only recruited 1 student. Do these companies generally recruit a lot of kids?

For example, Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, Morgan Stanley, Bear Stearns

That might be of some help.

PERFECT! Thanks mssales thats exactly what I was looking for. What school do you go to?

I go to the University of Southern Indiana, and I was(still kinda) seriously considering transferring to IU.

Indiana's business school has over 1,000 seniors.............this huge number makes the number of recruited students far less impressive.

for IB:
10 JP Morgan
6 bear stearns
5 goldman
4 UBS
2 deutsche bank
2 lehman
1 merril lynch
1 morgan stanley
1 citigroup
1 banc of american securities

33 top investment banking positions out of over 1,000 kids, most of these 33 kids are probably members of investment banking workshop...
damn you gotta work hard.

overall, pretty darn solid program.

2 also at Credit Suisse.

So its a solid program, but very hard to get recruited? I plan on working my ass off frosh yr and pulling a 3.8+, getting into Kelley w/ honors. I also want to get into the ibanking workshop which seems to be the place to get hooked up. Indiana is probably my best bet for a great social life and academics. What school do you go to Untitled?

nah, zero full time position at CSFB. 2 interns.

I was counting full time offers.

it's an excellent program, but i sense there'll be some serious competition too.
i meant 33 out of 1000 (obviously not everyone wants to do IB) is a tough bet. go to their investment banking workshop website, this year they;ve got 22 top IB offers.............which leaves very 11 slots for non-workshop people approximately. if you can keep your GPA around 3.8, then you are much better off. but it's pretty darn difficult to maintain such a high GPA. it's a great choice overall.

keep in mind, that list of people also include people who are not in Kelley, such as econ majors in college of arts and sciences who have connections, etc.

If you can get into Michigan--> Ross, it'd be a better choice, good luck.

btw, i go to university of virginia--> McIntire

Ah, I must have looked at it wrong. Also is that 1,000 for the senior class? Or 1000 students period majoring in finance period? Anyway Untilted for laughs, could a student at a regular university have a shot at AG Edwards, I see one analyst profile, and she is from University of Missouri so it's possible but likely very hard.

over 1000 for senior class in kelley school of business, not all finance majors, some accounting, some management etc

a student from a non target school has chance at every top IB company, it's just relatively harder. God knows if that Missouri girl's dad's some management director for AG Edward... if you go to goldman, JPMorgan, lehman, Lazard's websites, you'll find a lot of people in the "profiles" are from non-target schools.

If you want to transfer, go for it. If not, try to get a high GPA and start networking.

According to the career services center, thats around 250-300 kids in Finance.
