That makes sense, thank you. So Tufts will have no way of knowing?
Also, do either of you know if I will need to get new letters of recommendation for this application? My guidance counselor just passed away, so obviously it would be impossible to get a new one from her or have one written by another guidance counselor that doesn’t know me.
In filling out your applications, have you ever come across a question like, “Are you currently under a deferment arrangement with another institution?” If not, then it is unlikely that colleges in general have a direct interest in any alternate plans you may have. Regarding your recommendations, expect all colleges to treat you reasonably. They may be interested in a recommendation from your gap year experience, but not fresh recommendations from a high school you no longer attend.
@merc81 no, I have not seen a question like that- but then again, I put on my common app that I was currently in high school, so that question would likely not have been brought up. Perhaps I should call Tufts again, to make sure? It’s a busy time of year for them, so I feel bad, but I don’t want any nasty surprises down the road.
You don’t need to, you’re fine.
(There’s no such question. )
You will need to request your hs LORsr this spring and recommenders will need to add what you did from dec-jan to June. One new letter from someone in charge during your gap year would be useful-supercisor, for instance.
Okay, that sounds good. So are you saying to nix the GC recommendation in favor of a recommendation from someone on my gap year program? My new guidance counselor said she would be able to include the old letter with an explanation saying why it could not be updated.
No, you need your GC’s rec (for the SSR - the “new” one will have to use your former GC’s). Plus 1-2 teachers and 1 supervisor.
Okay, thank you so much! I really appreciate it. The guidance counselors at my school aren’t super helpful to begin with, and with mine gone…there’s a lot of unanswered questions. I’ll just be happy in July when this whole process is over
