I'm a junior and I'm planning on taking the SAT 2s this june. i'm taking chemistry and i can't decide the other one. i narrowed it down to literature and u.s history. i was just wondering which is a harder test? which one is easier to get over 700? since I get out of school on may 30th i have like 5 full days to study. any suggestions?
thanks

Take both.

Literature has the harshest curve. US History is fairly is easy, assuming you’ve had a class or two in it during high school.

If you’re in APUSH, take US History. It’s was easier than the AP Exam, although of course the curve isn’t as generous. I took both US History and Literature today, and it just really depends on where your strength is. I think Literature would be difficult for someone who doesn’t genuinely enjoy reading/deciphering language, whereas US History can be easy with just diligent study and some memorization.

Advanced (AP/IB/DE/rigorous Honors) US History class: Take USH.

High CR score and advanced lit class: Take Lit.

Literature is the hardest test to get an 800 on (I believe it’s tied with another for that, actually). The histories are among the easiest to get an 800 on, based on curves.

@stalanta yeah but i’m just scared that some colleges take all the scores… so i think i’m just going to focus on one
@selfindulgent i’m not in APUSH but i do like history and i’m doing well in my us history class. and i totally agree with you. i feel like literature can’t really improve by studying and memorization. yeah now i’m tending towards taking u.s history :P

@billymc thanks for the information!!

Then again, since an 800 in Lit is so hard to get, a 760, for example, is looked on more favorably than a 760 in Math II would be. If you feel you are pretty much equally as strong at US History and Literature, I really encourage you to take both. Most schools say they will only consider your two highest subject test scores. As long as one score isn’t really low, those that request all your scores are not going to be bothered by it. So as long as you are fairly confident you can do like 720+ on both of them (or at least 700+ --and this is assuming you’re aiming for top schools), I would take both.

and one more thing, any book recommendation on these two subject tests? i heard kaplan for us history is good and concise…

Princeton Review helped me a lot with studying for the AP, and it’s basically the same exact test, so I’d go for that. Then I heard people recommend Direct Hits US History and/or the APUSH Crash Course book. Again, applicable for the AP exam or the SATII. You’re going to want to get more than one book, though, if you haven’t taken any accelerated US History course.

For USH, Direct Hits + Amsco is the way to go. Direct Hits, especially.
Not sure about Lit though

Haha I’m trying to decide as well…
I’m in AP language/composition, and I got an 800 on CR SAT1
I’m also in AP US history, and I’m pretty sure I got at least a 4 if not a 5

Also, sorry if this has been answered elsewhere but will I be charged if I change the test I’m taking on test day? I know that you can easily change it (I’ve taken the SAT2s before), but idk if CB will charge me or not for it…

You should get a high score on either or both.

Your registration is not test-specific, you don’t decide until you start bubbling.
