GA Governors Honors Program, 4-H from 5th-10th grade, top 5% of class...any tips on college apps or anything?

Well this is going to make it really hard. I checked out UGA's IR program extensively and I was far from impressed. I don't think you would be interested in it and ive heard classes are really hard to get. Your SAT scores are too low at the moment to get significant merit aid from anywhere out of state so if I were you, that would be my primary concern for the coming year. Go to the SAT prep forum and see some suggestions on how to improve. What kind of sucks about the south, is that there are not a whole lot of schools that have decent IR programs. Out of your list, I would really focus on Georgia Tech. I was very very close to going to Tech and although its an engineering school and their IR program is small, they have great professors and its really an up and coming program. I would actually say Georgia Tech IR is best in the southeast(unless you count the DC area as part of the south).

Even though you said you want to stay in the south I would also consider:

Tufts University(MA)
American(D.C)
George Washington(D.C)
UCSD(southern california)
Middlebury(New York)

All of these schools are generally expensive and require good stats to get into. However, if you could somehow raise your SAT score to high 1300's or 1400 I would definitely consider American because they will give you good merit aid. AU's IR program is very very good and its right on embassy row and its pretty much all the school is known for(in other words, a lot of attention is devoted to IR).

As for UGA, you have a decent chance of getting in now, definitely with a better SAT. I believe as long as you can get the math score to a 600 + you are also a shoe in at Tech.

Good Luck!
