Help me with Clemson Decision!

@amxn15  if you are posing a question on a public forum, be prepared to handle the feedback - even if it is not palatable to you
Nobody “owns” threads here. Obviously most people are unwilling to entertain shady ideas on how to circumvent residency rules.

So, you have two affordable possibilities: USC, that offered you a 10k/year scholarship (is that correct?) and NCSU (you’re waiting to get off the wait list - based on Naviance or a comparison between their stats and you’re, are you above average there ie., likely to get off the wait list)?
By May 1st deposit somewhere - you don’t want to end up in supplementary housing by waiting too long.
Once you’ve deposited at either one, wait for the list of colleges that miscalculated yield, usually published around May 5. Colleges confidential will post the link and discussion of the best universities. You may then run the NPC and apply to the ones you like as a possible alternative to the university you deposited at.

(You can’t be instate in Virginia: your parents live in NC and there are no reciprocal agreements as there are between WI and MN for instance. You can try and make legislation change for other kids if you feel there is a reasonable movement to be found for it in both States while keeping in mind it’d mean similar funding for higher education in the states considered.)

Actually I think @itsgettingreal17 is giving good advice. If you end up claiming in state residency when you don’t meet the requirements there can be significant consequences. People who live instate should get reduced tuition. They’ve been paying the taxes to help support the school. Out of state students haven’t paid taxes and should pay a higher amount. It doesn’t seem fair to try to work around the system when the bulk of us are following the rules.

@xn3mom There is a much nicer way to say things lol. I’m not trying to “work around the system”.

@genesmasher It isn’t a “shady” way to get residency. I have tons of family living in VA. But I get the point, thanks for being rude

@MYOS1634 Thanks for giving me real advice, I really appreciate it unlike the others. I’ll definitely consider either USC or maybe not even wait for State. I think I may just go there as it is affordable and a better fit for me than NCSU

@amxn15, I’m sorry to hear you won’t be heading to Clemson. Univ of SC is a great school too. My daughter had the same choices between Univ of SC and Clemson. In the end, she chose the cheapest school and is attending Univ of SC. We’re from SC, and I was hoping we’d bring in another great person from out of state, that’s why I tried to give you all the info you can get. People move all the time, so even if you moved to SC for 3-4 years, it’s no one else’s business. I believe SC knows that too, that’s why you weren’t going to get in-state tuition your freshman year, and as long as you followed the law to the letter, there’s nothing wrong with moving into SC for 4 years and getting in-state tuition the remaining 2 or more years. Best of luck to your future.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate how nice you are and how sincere that was. There is a good amount of people who tried to make me look bad and make me feel like crap for trying to make my college experience affordable, it is absolutely ridiculous. There is no reason an undergraduate degree at Clemson should be $200,000 for anyone. I pay taxes in SC too because I own a property in the state but I can’t get in state solely off of that. @DDclass2018 Thank you so much, it sucks that Clemson couldn’t work out for me especially since it was my dream school and I was accepted but I think they really need to do a better job of making the school more affordable for their students.
