I am going to Philly next week but I only have time to visit two schools. Do you suggest visiting Bryn Mawr, Haverford, Penn, or Swarthmore?

Bryn Mawr and Haverford are 5 minutes apart. Haverford to Swarthmore or UPenn is closer to a half hour to 40 minutes. I can never do more than two campuses in a day, so I’d vote for BM and HC. The campuses are worth spending some time walking around: beautiful trees, buildings, landscaping, etc.

Okay. So I toured both Bryn Mawr and Haverford today, and they are now my first and second choices. Are they reasonable reaches for me? Do I actually have a chance at getting in? I cannot take my SAT subject tests until January, Haverford’s last SAT date. Will taking the exam so last minute negatively affect my chance of admission?

Congratulations!
No, taking the Subject tests in January won’t affect your admissions, only the score will. So study hard and do well :)

I’m glad you liked them. Haverford’s one of my two favorite campuses and the faculty and students are superb. I’m not as enamored of the groupthink; they definitely recruit a certain kind of student who is very happy with the non-competitiveness of the Quaker way. Faculty know they got very lucky.

It’s a crapshoot for you at Haverford. You’re at the top of the middle 50 for CR and W but your M score is way below the middle 50. You have lots of ECs with leadership but none of them are “ivy” remarkable. As a reader of applications, the first thing I would want to know is if the student can do the work at Haverford, and I think your record says you can, so it probably will come down to how many applicants have a better total score than you. That no one can predict.
