I toured in total about 7 colleges over the past few months, and I didn't really fall in love with any one of them. I've submitted or am currently working on a few applications to the colleges I liked the most, but I don't really have a first choice. Now I'm in the situation where I have to soon have all of my applications in and I am still trying to get my stuff in order. It would be great if you could give me a few suggestions based on my profile.

I'm a white female from PA. Right now my parents aren't really expressing concern for finances.

Right now I'm considering studying political science, history, anthropology, or Spanish.

I have a GPA of 97.31/100, and I think it is weighted because my school doesn't provide anything else. I am 18/245 in class rank.

I have a 2060 on the SAT: CR 730, M 580, W 750. I just took the November SAT, and I feel confident that I did better on the math section. I am also considering taking the SAT IIs in December or January in time for RD.

AP Classes:
Human Geo 5
Spanish Lang 4
English Lang 4
US History 4
Environmental Science (now)
US Gov (now)
Comp Gov (now)
English Lit (now)
Statistics (now)

I have 3 other honors courses this year, and 9 extra curricular activities, holding leadership in most. I also volunteer at a local museum as a docent.

I know I want to look at schools in suburban areas that have easy access to larger cities and that I want to stay on the east coast, no farther south than North Carolina. I am open to women's colleges, and I want a school with a great alumni network.

I applied and was accepted to University of Pittsburgh. I like almost everything about Pitt, except its large class sizes and the students’ over abundance of enthusiasm and school spirit.

I’m also applying to Dickinson, Gettysburg, and Franklin and Marshall, which are all really similar. I like them a lot, but they’re all less than a half hour’s drive from my house and they are all in small towns. I liked their small classes and liberal arts focus, but it seemed like students had to drive for hours to a large city for the opportunities available there. I’m also from the area and feel the proximity to home is limiting.

I toured Elon too, but probably won’t apply because the university seemed to have a huge focus on communications and broadcasting, which I’m not interested in. Though the campus was ideal, the tour put too much of a focus on communications and some one business, which I have no interest in.

I toured Washington College in Maryland too, and I’m not applying because the campus and town didn’t feel right for me. It was also too rural.

I toured William & Mary and haven’t decided if I’m going to apply or not yet. I liked it a lot, but didn’t love it, plus it’s out of state tuition for me.

You should apply to Bryn Mawr - sure, it’s a long shot, but it’s not totally out of reach, and it meets most of your other criteria. You should also try for Mount Holyoke. Other reaches would be Tuft and American.
What about Marist - it’s a 1h to 1H30 train ride into NYC. Connecticut College may be of interest, too. URochester, Ithaca, Ursinus, Goucher?

It is okay not to have a first choice. It is okay not to fall in love with “a dream school”.
My older DD applied to 8 schools and never had a top choice until she was accepted to many and had to make a choice.

Yeah. I have one account on my phone and another on my computer because of password recovery issues. I post on both depending on where I want to check the notifications.

While it’s a bit outside your geographic boundaries, you might also want to consider Agnes Scott College, a women’s college in Decatur, Ga, just outside of Atlanta.

So it seems like you are a highly motivated student with great expectations for yourself, now all you have to do is buckle down and make a choice. But that choice doesn’t mean you are deciding on a school you have to LOVE, at least at first. I am currently a sophomore at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. We are only an hour away from New York City, making internship and job opportunities highly attainable. If you are looking for a school with great alumni connections I cannot tell you how much Marist alum support our college. Our president Dennis Murray was in Forbes magazine last year for his fantastic achievements in improving the school’s facilities and securing lasting endowments. Besides this fact, Marist is a fantastic school with a wonderful liberal arts college and low student/teacher ratio which keeps class sizes small and allows for the creation of strong relationships.

I am a sophomore with a double major in English and Philosophy and a minor in Spanish, and next year I plan on studying abroad in Madrid, Spain. I have taken many history and spanish courses so far and have never looked back with regrets.

In high school I took all honors and AP courses and scored highly on my ACTs, but to be honest I wasn’t excited about picking a school either. I always felt pressured I wasn’t volunteering enough or doing enough extracurricular activities to get into the schools I could see myself going to, but in the end I was lucky with Marist. I toured in the spring of my senior year after I was accepted and was pleased to discover Marist’s fantastic liberal arts program and social atmosphere. Marist is a diamond in the rough, being both academically challenging and socially stimulating, I would definitely recommend checking it out! Here is Marist’s admissions website: <a href=“Admission & Financial Aid - Marist College”>https://www.marist.edu/admission/

I’m not looking at any religious institutions because I do not want religion to have any bearing on my education.

My new SAT superscore is 2140 - CR: 730, M: 660, W: 750.

I was able to tour Bryn Mawr and Haverford last week, and I really liked them. Do I have a chance at either of them? I really liked the area and consortium. Is it worth it for me to tour and apply to Swarthmore as well? Are there any other schools that you suggest I look at?
